Dear Diary

One of the classes that I'm looking forward to this term is Theatre. Part of the reason is to get back into acting, which at the same time terrifies me. For this class, we are to write in a journal. It's mostly for class things, but it's also a personal journal to write in. She's explained that she's not going to read certain things intimently, she's only really going to skim. Therefore, we can write to our heart's desire.

Blogging is very different from writing in a journal. When I first started, I didn't know that. Well, I sort of did but I didn't know how different.

The biggest difference is the obvious one, and that is that you're writing for an audience in a blog. Even if you have no readers, even if you write just to write... you still have that idea in the back of your mind that someone else might be reading it. That means you have to censor yourself, and your thoughts have to be at least slightly coherent.

I know I'm not the best writer, and I'm practicing at it. Still, when it comes to blogging I at least try to write something that has pleasent sounding sentences. At least in my mind. How you write can make people want to read what you say. Or, make people want to stop reading. I stopped reading a blog once because she wrote LOL! all throughout her posts. Personally, I don't have the patience to read, "Then I went to the store to buy grapefruit LOL!"

The other thing that the audience does? It makes the writer censor themselves. Like I said before, anyone could read your blog. I have family members that read my blog. Would certain things be bad to say? Of course. Sometimes your audience is like that too. It's okay to know small details in a person's life, but some facts the whole world doesn't need to know about you.

I'm kind of excited about this little journal. I don't keep a journal currently, so it'll be nice to ramble and rant somewhere. (More than I do here.) The last few times I've kept journals were only because I started to have stupid crushes, and they died along with the crushes. They're also very embarrassing.

After I talk about how I should write coherently in posts, I write a rambly one? Good gosh, when will I learn?

Do you keep a journal? When was the last time you did?

Crazy Theatre Productions, Lack of Sleep and Family Graduations

Have you ever read the Greek play Lysistrata? Have you ever seen it performed at a college at midnight?

Basically, ridiculousness. The girl next to me received about four lap dances. There was a giant purple dick held up by a stick and a cloth to represent a guy who really needed to get some. Like I said: Ridiculous.

Attending last night's show made me get four hours of sleep. Result? Two car-ride induced naps. Ah...

It's been a long day really. My cousin graduated from law school, AMAZING!

Just been hanging out, eating food, driving, and watching my cousin graduate. Now... we relax.

What's the craziest theater production you've ever seen?

Busy Days, Wicked, Car Troubles Return, and Letting My Cake Boss Show

I can't believe that it's already so late in the day. What can I say? It's been a pretty busy day.
Actually, I feel like I haven't gotten a chance to look at my usual blogs! I don't know why it's been so go go go, but it has.
For instance, as soon as I was done with all of my classes yesterday, I drove back on home and got ready for the evening ahead. Last night, as I said before I went with my family to the show Wicked. The whole reason we got to go had to do with my mom being an alumn, and there was a whole night with dinner.

The show was very fun! After seeing it, it felt like I was in on some big inside joke. Things flew around, there was some wonderful singing... It was just a fun production!

After the show, a not so fun thing happened to occur. Remember how I was talking about the putt-putting of the good old van? Well, I hadn't taken it in because every time I mentioned it, my mother would say, "Wait to get it done! Your dad can fix it!" Um... After the show, it decided to break down. Currently, it be in the shop, but it thankfully will be back in full swing by Tuesday.

Today was a day full of cooking and getting ready for tomorrow. Usually Easter doesn't become a very big thing at my house, just the simply Easter baskets and dinner. Tomorrow however we're doing brunch with some friends in the morning, and having a bunch of our family members coming over for dinner. The candy has become like rabbits (ha) and multiplied. The food in the house has grown. Fridges that were once empty are now filled with goodies to be cooked up tomorrow. Madness.
One of the last minute things that was made? This little beauty:

Yes, I'm letting my Cake Boss show. Aw yeah.

Hopefully after this weekend, there shall be more time to talk about all of the stuff happening in life like interesting and exciting things!

Have you ever let your Cake Boss show? (As in, what's the most interesting looking treat you've ever made?)

Refresh, Studying, Professors and Daydreaming

I'd just like to take a moment to say let's skip over last night's post of venting and move on. Goodness, I don't even want to go back and read my 14-year old inner emo kid writing. I just needed to vent I suppose.

Today, I have just taken some time to chill out. I've also taken the time to avoid studying for my Public Speaking midterm to do some serious drawer organizing. Behold!

You may say, "So what, folding clothes?" To which I say, "No it's ART!"
Yes, they are lovely. But I have gotten on the studying, and hope to do well on my midterm tomorrow.

Teachers are an interesting breed. There are some teachers that many people love, while another group can't stand that teacher. There is one habit that some teachers have that I cannot stand, which one of my current professors possesses. The best way I can put it is she acts like I'm a puppy who happened to get bonked on the head. To that I say NO. If you want to challenge my intelligence, just flat out say it. Don't baby me. Some people may prefer that, but not me.

I want to do something theatre-y lately. I think since my Costume class is in the Auditorium, it's making me crave that type of thing.

As for careers, today I was thinking about how interesting it could be to be a personal assistant to a movie star. Of course, when I think about it I create basically a sitcom-y scenario with a kooky star. Then they have silly, fun adventures. ...I can pretend, right?

Well, I suppose I should study for my test more. Ta ta for now!

What type of teacher do you prefer?

Back to Class and Textbooks

Yup. The term has started once again... I've probably said that a hundred times by now.

I'm not sure yet if this term has started out rocky or alright, but I think it's been a little bit of both.

I'm back to my 8:00 am History class again and I was surprised to see that not a lot of people are continuing from my old class. It's also in a new building which is a bit discouraging because if it was in the same building, my next class would be there too and not across campus. Yes, the campus is small but who likes to walk in the cold at 8:00? Not me. I was extremely tired in class this morning... not the best of signs. Hopefully I'll get more sleep and not have that problem.

Spanish was kind of awkward. The teacher is a bit... odd. She'll tell a joke, but she'll say it like she's telling you your mother passed away. There's also going to be quite a bit of homework. Boo. Spanish homework is the most annoying homework to me simply because it's so tedious, ya know?

Tech. Theatre: Costume will be pretty interesting! I had no idea we were going to be sewing! I can sort of sew, but I'm amateur at best. It'll probably be really fun! The teacher tends to trail off though. She's a classic artsy person.

I was hoping to get more done today, but that did not happen. I bought my Spanish books today and died a little inside. My two Spanish books cost more than all of my books combined from last term. I'm running low on the debit account... No more spending for awhile it seems. I was able to finish my Spanish homework, but I dozed off a bit in the afternoon. Woops.

New classes tomorrow! Time to get ready for bed, since tomorrow's another early morning!

How was your first day back to the grind?

Finishing Projects and Odd Auditions

I ended up staying the night at home due to lack of motivation to drive. Eh, ended up being beneficial with learning that it might be better to travel abroad next year instead of junior year. Will look into that more.

Today I ended up working on finishing my costume design project. Here it is!

Truth be told, I thought that it would turn out a lot cooler. What can you do? At least it looks professional, right?

I tried out for Dangerous Liasions tonight! The audition was... weird. The other thing I did today was quickly memorize a monologue, which ended up turning out okay. I think. When I mentioned that I was planning to minor in Theatre, he told me who I should meet up with to set up a minor advisor, and then said I should sign up for Elements of Acting? Compliment or insult? Not really sure, especially since he told a lot of other people the same thing. We'll just see what happens.

I'll leave you now with a picture of me and my cousin from the midnight showing of HP that I forgot was on my camera.

'Cause that's how we roll.
Time is slowly nearing to Thanksgiving! Are you pumped?!

Good News and Hibernation Weather

You know how I've been talking about the feeling of hibernation creeping upon campus? Today was one of those days that it made you want to stay inside even more. This is why:
Icky. Oregon's winter is officially happening. I love my Oregon, but... mrr.

Today something extremely exciting happened. I was drying my hair when my phone started ringing. I suspected it was my mom because she's the only person who tends to actually use their phone as a phone. Alas, it was an unknown number. When I answered it, it was someone named Nick. He was putting on a One Act play and the director of Picnic told him to call me. Apparently she thought I was good enough to suggest to this guy to put me in his One Act. I asked about an audition and he just replied, "No audition, I'm just gonna trust her on this." How cool is that?! I seriously did not expect something like that to happen. I'm meeting with him on Friday. We'll see where this goes, but OH MY GOSH! Seriously!

In other news, I got a flu shot tonight. My arm is super sore. This better go away by Weight Training on Friday.
It's also the last day I'm wearing my pedometer. I'll kind of miss the little thing. A little.

Hmm, not enough steps for the day yet
Lastly, I also met with someone in the Career Development Center today. I just wanted some help on figuring out where my passions should take me in way of a major. Meeting up with her was a little bit like talking to a therapist about your problems. It's not really that I didn't know what I should do, but saying it out loud to someone else made the ideas seem more clear. It's good to get a lot of different views. Something she said at the very end of our meeting was, "I can't wait to see where you are in six years." That is pretty neat.

Now is the time that I must continue working on my costume project... or whatever else I get distracted by.

What was the last exciting news that you received?

Libraries and Going the Distance (Or Not)

I am quite excited that tomorrow is Friday! Yet there is still much to do this evening.

Yesterday I saw a poster for another play tryout! Do I want to do it? Yes, of course! Then today one of my hall mates texted me and mentioned that she wanted to try out for it. How exciting!
Hello Third Floor Library, have we met?
This brought me to going to the library to look up books for monologues. I have been to the library as mentioned before, but I had yet to check out any books.

If you got a chance to look at my first post, you'd see that I have a habit of taking facts from books a lot, or quoting said information. Where do you find books other than the library? This takes us back to this summer, where I would visit the local library multiple times and check out as many books as I could carry. Were these novels? Ha, if only. No, these were books on information like how to succeed in college, finding out the secrects to being financially savvy. Pretty much how to books and factorial books. Weirdly enough I love this type of stuff.

Fast forward today. I look up some monologue books and go find them. One would be enough, yes? I grab three. It seems like I would be good for the day, but what's this? Something has caught my eye! Some books about writing are on the shelf. I skim it, but find nothing of interest. Wait! What's that on the next shelf? Books about food? I am interested about finding out proper nutrition more... I wonder if they have- Fast Food Nation! People always tell me to read this! And let's look at those nutrition books...

This led to me getting  this pile of books:
There's another one in my backpack as well. The question is, when am I going to be able to read these? I have until December 2.

This morning I was planning to run 5 miles, as my training schedule I made said. However, it did not happen. I was having serious issues this morning. It wasn't that my legs were tired, I just couldn't breathe! I don't know what was going on. I ended up running 4. I don't feel very guilty though since
  1. I ran an extra mile earlier this week to test out my new shoes.
  2. I did Aerobics tonight, which was fun! I was surprised that it didn't totally kill me. I think I'm gaining some endurance!
Truthfully, I think I put more mileage on my training schedule than the one I took the main idea from. I'm doing fine as far as I'm concerned.

The aerobics thing was part of a campus activity... that ended up ending at 9:40. Add me taking a shower, and you've got the reason for the post so late in the evening. Time to go dry my hair!

How do you feel about libraries? What books do you usually go for?

Birthday Lunch and Study Time

Do you ever have one of those days where you keep thinking it's one day, but it's actually a different day entirely? Today has been one of those days.
Last night I was in half dream/half awake mode, and I said something in a full sentence, then was really confused when I heard,
"What?"
I opened my eyes, and my room mate is looking at me like I'm crazy. Yeah, I'd feel a little creeped out if someone across from me just said a bizarre sentence (I don't remember what I said) when you thought they were asleep.

I went to lunch with my aunt and grandma as I said yesterday. At first deep down I was worried that it was a pity thing (from the Seattle thing I mentioned?), but of course I overthought it. They took me out because they wouldn't be there for my birthday! How sweet are they? My grandma even made me specialty cupcakes! The are sitting in my microwave now, which seems a little weird but there's no where else to put them.

I did some studying in the library today. It was pretty legit. Look at my awesome little organized place:

Tonight I found out about a play thing happening in Salem. I was thinking, "All right, nice! I can get a play done for theatre class!" So one of my classmates, the brother of one of my hall mates, and I drove down to Salem to see it. Turns out, the ticket booth and the theatre are in two completely different places. What?! Oh well.

I sound like a boy going through puberty. Another time of lack of concentration, mainly because everyone in our hall is chilling in the common area, and I cannot think.

Where do you study the best?

The Feeling of My Mind Overflowing

Hm. Odd title, but what are you gonna do?

Today has definately been a hectic day to say the least. I feel like I've been going and going all day, and it's not gonna stop until I go to bed.

This morning was a tired kind of morning. I woke up early automatically which was a good thing because it turns out I forgot to set my 7 alarm and set it for 7:20! Wouldn't have been horrible, but still. Classes!

Individual Health/Fitness
My GOSH this woman went through information way too quickly. It was a bit stressful.

Freshmen Year Experience
Now this is a ridiculous class. Seriously, it felt like I was in bucket list class. Perhaps it was from being sleepy that I was bored by this class, but it's ridiculous. Pretty much one of the assignments is what I'm doing with this blog, saying 28 things I want to do before I graduate college. What grade are we in again?

Literature of the Western World: Greco-Roman
This class seems interesting, but it's gonna be a tough one. There's a lot of reading and the teacher seems very particular though nice.

The homework is now beginning to pile up in the calendar. I'm on time as of now, but soon I'm gonna have to start buckling down and not get distracted. There are other factors that get in the way though...

Remember that tryout that I talked about? Well... I got a callback! That's the reason this entry is so late. Plus, I was busy ya know? Okay, the play. It was so exciting to get a callback. It was crazy though because there are some amazing talents here at WOU. How fun! I missed Glee unfortunately. It will be on Hulu tomorrow though!
Random things... I tried a tofu wrap today in Valsets. It wasn't shabby!

Delicious!
Another cool thing, I received my first letter at college today! It was from my friend Diana who I haven't talked to in FOREVER. We were both really busy this summer.

Isn't the envelope cute! She's an artsy kid too.
Well it's time for me to take a shower, rewrite my questions for History so the look nice, and probably go to bed. (Yeah, how cool of a college kid am I? I can't help it, I have to get up early in the morning!)

What is the most ridiculous class you've ever had in college? Did you party hard or study hard?

First Day of Class

So… after writing my entry last night, I went kind of crazy on food. It was terrible. I started eating a ton of these peanut butter chocolate eyeballs like there was no tomorrow. I’m pretty sure I know why I did it, for two reasons:
  1. It was an internal mindset saying “Hey, you’ve gone down! It won’t matter if you go back up one pound.” It doesn’t matter, but with that type of eating/idea it’ll become much more than a little pound.
  2. My body was out of wack. You know how I said I went to that pizza thing and there was no pizza?  I was starving once I finally ate, and even though I ate some top ramen (dinner of champs!) my body was still going crazy.
I know that no one really cares to hear that kind of stuff, but I thought I should just admit what I’d done.

Anywho, first day of school!
It's been a good day so far, even though I have homework already. Let's start out with this morning. I surprisingly woke up on time but I couldn't really sleep at all last night. I was so worried about waking up so I told my mom she should call me in the morning. She laughed at me and said I was ridiculous but she called me anyways. I love my mom.

Our RA left this note on our door this morning, how cute!

First class was History of U.S.!
History was actually quite interesting. She liked percentages and said "Good good" a lot. I have to read an excerpt and answer a question by Wednesday. I had to discuss points with a girl who sat behind me who was... not that bright in my opinion.

Weight Training
Weigh Training was odd simply because I went to get a syllabus and then the teacher says "Okay you can lift right now, but you can go if you want to." So... I got some information from him and left for the day. We'll start actually doing stuff next time.

And Introduction to Theatre Arts!
This class was fun. The teacher swears a lot and is pretty funny. I'm really excited for it. The only thing is that I have to read a play by Wednesday. It's a pretty quick read though.

After class I had lunch with my cousin Laci at Yangs. It was great! Laci is an alumni of WOU now, so she's really excited that I'm going here. We talked, hung out, and she bought some shirts.

You know that theatre thing I went to last night? Well I found out that they're having play tryouts tonight and I think I'm going to try it out! I'm nervous just because I don't know what college level people are like. I don't want to look stupid!
I also need to figure out when I'm going to run. I need to do that soon. Hope everyone has a lovely evening, and wish me luck tonight!

Starting School Again and Weighing In

I stayed the night at my cousins’ house last night and I never want to leave when I’m there. I know it’s not always like this, but whenever I’m at their house there is always a ton of delicious junk food. It’s too much! I know it’s just for celebrations, but it seems like we’re always celebrating ha. I love my family.
The more I’ve been talking about college the more I’ve been wondering just what I want to do. There are so many jobs that sound fantastic, but for now I’m not quite sure!

Actually I’m going to be a SUPERSTAR. So watch out.

Actually I’m going to be a SUPERSTAR. So watch out.
Speaking of Superstar, I went to this meeting thing for theater that someone told me about during orientation. I was expecting to eat pizza there, but there was none left. It was cool. I did get to know my Theatre teacher, so cool deal!
It’s funny, I almost have first day jitters. I feel a lot more excited than I think I should feel. I suppose it’s because I’m the type of person who always desires a fresh start of some kind. I want to shock and awe everyone. I want to show everyone just what I can do. Even though I don’t even know what that is yet.
After leaving my cousins I stopped by Fred Meyers and picked up a scale. It’s nothing fancy, it’s just a simple step on it and shows your weight scale. I know that I should of asked my mom to buy it for me, but I didn’t really want to let anyone know that I was buying it. I think there’s two reasons why I didn’t want to say anything:
  1.  I wanted to feel the gratification of buying something for myself and
  2. I think I felt a little embarrassed.
Let me explain. I didn’t want my family judging me, thinking, “Oh why does she need that? She’s too skinny as it is. She needs to stop worrying/freaking out about it.”
No, I’m not one of those people who weighs themselves everyday. I know that weight fluctuates daily, and I’m not obsessive. I just want to have a little help with monitoring the freshmen fifteen avoidance.

My scale’s name is Stanley

I try to weigh in on Sunday evening but I weighed myself last Saturday. My last weight was 129 lbs. Today’s weigh in was…

…Is that 128? Huh. It seems I have lost a pound, but that may be due to loss of muscle. Who knows! I guess it’s a good start though! Let’s keep on track!
I’m going to take a shower, then probably go to bed since I’m getting up at 7. Wish me luck!
