Off to a Hair Cut

Question: How on earth does my room get messy after only a few days? Honestly.

In about a half hour, I'm going to get myself a hair cut. Yes! Finally. I confess that I wish I could get my hair chopped off really short, but what's probably going to happen is that I'm going to get a few inches and then thin it out. Why not the short hair? I couldn't pull off short hair. I would like like a boy. I know it's true. Also, I've heard so many people against me getting short hair that it's rubbed off on me a bit.

One thing I am doing is getting rid of the bangs. No, I'm not cutting them obviously, because that would make them stay. It's simply time to let these suckers grow out.

Since I'm so lazy with my hair, how much I have usually doesn't matter. Whenever I see the makeovers on America's Next Top Model, I roll my eyes at the girls that start sobbing because of a hair cut. It's HAIR. It will grow back. By the way they're crying, you'd think that they had an arm chopped off instead.

If I was ever on ANTM in an alternate reality, I'd be a little disappointed if my hair was colored. I've never dyed my hair because I have a fantastic natural color. Well, in my opinion. Dirty blond hair with golden streaks? Yes, I do like it. I wouldn't cry though.

All that aside, I'm off to my haircut. And I vow to not be this person:

Yeah.

What type of hair cut would you love to have but could never pull off?

The Start of Finals and Such

Is it Friday yet? I'd really like it to be Friday.

Today I had two of my first finals, and they turned out alright... at least I hope that Econ final turned out alright. One of my most important study rules is to get a good night's sleep. Might sound silly, but it helps the information actually stick. Well last night for some reason my brain thought waking up at all hours was a much better plan. I think I was worried about getting up on time, which is ridiculous. I've had an 8 AM class every day this term, so I think it's possible for me to wake up normally for a test at the same time.

I don't have anything on my plate for the next few days other than two more finals, a haircut, and the Hunger Games. You'd think I'd be worried for my two finals, but honestly I feel like I'm already done. Despite my lack of proper grammar in the blog, I know my grammar pretty well. I didn't even study for the last quiz and got 100%. I skimmed for the midterm and missed one. Knock on wood still. I'll obviously study a little though. The other "final" is a monlogue performance, and I think that'll be fine.

I'm finally getting a haircut! 'Bout time. I'm going to grow out my bangs instead of trimming them again because I'm done with them. Bah. I'll deal with my forehead instead. The rest of the world (people I talk to) think that I should keep it long, but I'm getting tired of it. When you get choked by your own hair in the middle of the night because you shift to the other side, you tend to wish for shorter hair.

I've been thinking about my goal of "living well" I set for myself at the beginning of January, and I need to get back into high gear for that. Sure, I've been eating fruits and veggies, but I need to think less about food. Well, less obsessing about food. Thinking about when I can eat, how much I can eat...
No. I need to eat like a normal human being.

Speaking of food... Don't you hate it when you're at the point where if you buy something now, you'll have too much of it by the end of the week, but if you don't you'll have to live without it for awhile? Currently, I am without English muffins. I eat them all of the time, and that includes for breakfast with peanut butter and jam. PB and J on toast is my breakfast almost every day, but I can't do that with no toast. I'd go to the store, but there are other things I should probably use up. I'm also out of craisins and frozen veggies, two other staples. Will I cave? We'll see. I have three days to last without.

On the last food note, I think I've realized I don't actually like baked goods. I like the batter. I was seriously looking at desserts and thought, "Man, I bet the bowl for that would be delicious to lick." Cookie dough is so much more satisfying than cookies. Banana bread bowls are meant for me to taste. I seem to like the taste of salmonella? Eh. You can have your chocolate fudge cake, just gimme the bowl and spoon.

Even though I ran today and yesterday, I'm considering a run tomorrow. I don't run three days in a row, so I probably shouldn't. Whenever I run though, I feel like I've actually done something with my day. Goodness, that is a bit concerning... but I don't have anything on my scedule tomorrow. Maybe I'll look for a running store down here.

Well. That certainly was a random post. Random post for a random day I guess? Finals week will do that to you.

How is your week going? Any big, exciting projects?

The Story of Movember

There's been a holiday celebration that has been happening for quite a few days now. A holiday that once had good intentions behind it, but now has become an excuse for a lack of hygiene.

That's right. I'm talking about Movember.

Many people know of this holiday, but in case you don't the other name for it is No Shave November. Participants do exactly what the title implies, by not shaving. Originally it started as some project to raise awareness or something for some organization fighting prostate cancer, but now that is not the case. Movember gives guys a chance to try to grow that beard/facial hair they've always wanted to try growing.

In my high school, Movember was a big deal. The hipster/hippie population loved the idea of trying to grow majestic facial hair hoping they would grow something the gods of facial hair would approve of. They imagined their hair would grow like this:

But instead, it tends to grow like this:

Well, I guess he actually wants his facial hair to look like this. But you get the picture.
Then, after a few days of being mocked for looking like a pedophile, they angrily decide to shave it off. That's how it usually goes.

Seeing as it's the 21st century, girls have wanted their spot in the Movember movement. That means they decide not to shave their legs, pits, or both. And yes, there are debates about this. Sad, really.

Why do I mention all of this? Well, it's because I have a sad confession. I've kind of been involuntarily participating in this event.
Personally, I love the feeling of being clean shaven. Sure I'll be colder, but smooth legs just always feel so nice! However, before today I'd probably gone a week and a half without shaving my legs. Ew for me. The thing is, I haven't really had a choice. There's a funny thing with my shower... it doesn't keep hot water for more than five minutes. Usually by the time I get to shaving, the water has turned ice cold. Meaning I don't really want to be standing in it. No, the water heater is not located in my apartment. Believe me, I've looked.
Today I was able to shave me legs, but it was with the shower off. Just ridiculous.

On a random hair note, yesterday I saw one of the saddest things. It was a guy with a hipster beard, balding comb over, and working at Target. How depressing.

I think that's enough talk about hair for one day, don't you?

Do you support Movember? Do you like shaving, or do you do it just to be presentable?

New Shoes Test, Going Outside and Attack of the Hair

I tried out my new running shoes today. I wanted to really like them. But I didn't. I felt like a horse clopping along. What are the rules to returning shoes? I've got 90 days, but I ran quite a bit in them. I had to get my run in! Guh, I dunno.

The other day, something that seems very depressing to me happened. No, not like a death or something like that. Just... let me explain. I had past my dad who had just woken up from falling asleep in front of the television. As I passed by I heard him say, "Wow, it's pretty hot out there today, isn't it?"

I paused. He had just woken up from a nap, he hadn't been outside. "Dad," I asked. "Have you been outside at all today?"

"Hm. I guess not. I just saw it say something on the weather channel."

Pictured: What nature feels like from the comfort of your home.
That? That depresses me. I know my dad is kind of a vampire (he burns to a crisp), but to spend the entire day in front of a TV, dozing off every few hours? What kind of life is that? Sure, he's an old man but that's just sad. Life was meant to be lived! At least step outside for a couple of minutes.

From that point, I made a little resolution for myself. Never spend an entire day indoors during a beautiful day. Why waste what nature has to offer? If I have a book, I'll read it outside. Maybe it'll inspire me to actually do more activities while outside. I just don't want to spend my live inside forever, wishing I could have spend more time in the sun.

In other news, my hair is getting ridiculous. If I don't push it to the side, I'm blinded by a sea of golden brown strands.

Sadly, this is the picture that looked the least like the girl from The Ring.
I suppose it's good for covering the ever-growing brows. I just need to make a hair appointment.

What personal maintenance have you put off? Made any mini resolutions recently?

Hairdos and Apartments

I keep on thinking it's Sunday. Hm.

One thing I forgot to mention yesterday?

I have bangs now!

I pretty much did the complete opposite of what I was planning to do, and got more hair to mess with. However, I ran with the bangs today and they didn't really bother me. I just look like a goof with my hair all pulled back.

In today's news, I did quite a bit of driving. Oof, I do not enjoy driving. Still, I like the convenience.
Also, I have a place to live next year! I signed the renter's agreement, and I think it's just time to plan how I'm going to decorate.

That's all I've got for the evening! Have a nice night!
Do you, or have you ever had bangs? What are your tips for working with bangs?

Defending the Room Mate and Natural Hair

My room mate was dissed by someone today. Right to me. Basically what she said was,
"She seems nice, but... there's just something I don't like about her."
The thing about that is you do NOT diss my room mate to me. It's like the sibling thing. Yes, you can bitch and moan all you want about your room mate, but when someone else gives even a little sass... Yeah, things are going down.

My hair is getting ridiculous. I need to get a haircut. The weird thing is, with my hair I never end up doing much. The one big thing that I do with my hair that doesn't come naturally is part it to the side. My hair happens to naturally part down the center, which isn't a great thing. With having dirty blond hair, my 'do with the part down the middle resembled the Hanson brothers. Now? I decided to take a look.

This is how I usually have my hair.

And this is how I really usually wear my hair.

I really should work with my hair more. I'm simply lazy. I tend to think if it doesn't frizz out like crazy, it's fine.

How do you do your hair?

Random Necessities, Crazy Hair, Hall Playfulness, Candy and Easter

I have lots of random things to blather about today, so let's get to it!

It's funny how necessary little things are in everyday life. My currently missing little necessary thing is tweezers. Before, I didn't think about how beastly the eyebrows could become. And believe me, they can be beastly. Visiting home this weekend means taking advantage of the tweezers. Okay, enough talk about hair. Goodness.

Since I've been in college, it feels like my maturity level has gone down in certain areas. Sure, I've learned how to be more responsible for certain situations, but in other cases my maturity has been very low. Case in point? Earlier this evening my RA created a hall Easter egg decorating event which turned into an Easter egg hunt. If you happened to pass by this dorm earlier, you would have seen a bunch of college students dashing through the halls frantically searching couch cushions for plastic eggs. After said event, I stuffed myself silly with Easter candy to the point of feeling a little nauseous. Eh, no regrets!

When it comes to Easter candy, I enjoy having some jelly beans. The rest of the year they don't really work, but they seem to fit the light, playful feel of the holiday.

However, jelly beans are the equivalent of Lima beans when it comes to my favorite candy of all time. Four words: Reese's peanut butter eggs. Really anything that combines the deliciousness of chocolate and peanut butter is an A+ in my book.

I know that not everyone celebrates Easter. Also, I know that the main idea around Easter is supposed to be for religious purposes. But c'mon! The most fun part of the holiday is finding pastel-colored treats all around whether it be decorations or eggs.

Hmm. Suppose that wasn't a lot of random stuff, but it felt like it when I first started writing it. Time to get myself to bed!

What's your favorite candy of all time?

Thankful for Myself Physically

As winter approaches, the motivation to actually acheive work is slowly fading away. Yes, I am keeping up. I'm actually ahead of my daily work, but there are bigger projects that I should be spending my time on. I have a costume project due in a week... I've worked on it, but it should be done. Anywho.

Lately I've been annoyed by my body. I feel like I look wider, though I know that I don't weigh more. Truthfully, I think that it's just there's now muscle in my stomach area, and I'm not used to it. So to discourage the negative thoughts I am doing something Thanksgiving-based a little early for the holiday. I'm giving thanks for my favorite body parts. (It could also be due to the fact that I can't think of what else to write about today, but let's ignore that.)

First and most importantly, I am extremely thankful for my legs. I love my legs a lot. A big reason is because well, I think they look fantastic but they are amazing for so many other reasons. They are able to move me, to help me be able to run, jump, dance. I will try to not take my legs for granted by sitting in the same position for hours at a time. I want to be able to use my legs as long as possible.

I am thankful for my arms. Not only have they become strong and in my opinion sexy, they help me with some of my favorite hobbies. Without my arms, I would not be able to draw, to play tennis, or to type. Perhaps I would be able to, but it would be a lot harder.

I am thankful for my eyes that let me see beauty in everyday life. I am thankful for my ability to hear stories, music, and little everyday noises that usually just go by unnoticed. I am thankful for my ability to smell delicious scents. I am thankful to be able to taste wonderful foods made with love.

Lastly, this may seem odd, but I'm thankful for my hair. I'm thankful that I was blessed with natural blond streaks, and that it is simple to maintain. I'm also thankful that it keeps my head warm and that I am able to actually have a full head of hair while others cannot.

It may seem silly, but sometimes it's good to just take a step back and look at all of the good things about yourself. We spend so much time looking at what's wrong with how we look, so why not let the downer side of our mind take a break?

I really have been feeling uninspired lately, but I'm hoping that will change soon... Winter, don't bring me down just yet!

What parts of yourself are you thankful for?
