Woo! Glad it's the weekend. Well, after I get some stuff done. Like class, running, appointment, stuff. Yup.
The other day while trying to escape the reality that is homework, I purused the internet for videos. (I really didn't want to start that reading.) On my quest to escape the impending reading, I came across a 16 and Pregnant: Where Are They Now episode. Like I said, I really didn't want to start that reading.
I think shows like this might exist to let us know that our lives are actually not that bad, and we're not that stupid. Because many of these girls? They make terrible mistakes, and I'm not even talking about getting pregnant. No, they get back together with guys who abuse them, argue points that they're completely wrong about, and just don't use common sense. Now I know that the relationship thing might be a tad more psychological than that, but... oye.
Whenever I see things about this show, it makes me think about if I ever got pregnant at that time, or even now. As much as I hate to admit it, I would probably put my child up for adoption. I would feel devastated, yes, but I know I wouldn't be able to provide for a child. I can hardly provide for myself! Heck, I get a lot of help from my parents, and I wouldn't want to put this responsibility on them. It wouldn't be fair.
There's one person in my life that I would be most concerned about their opinion about adoption, and it's neither of my parents. It's actually my cousin, who is adopted herself. Would she think adoption is a good idea? A lot of those kids don't get homes right away, and the system can suck sometimes. She's from Korea, so I don't know how the system works in comparison to the U.S., but from what I've heard it's a bit scary.
Then again, thinking about all of this I'd never practice unprotected sex. Why even risk it? Just my personal thoughts.
Woke up at 4 today, couldn't fall back asleep. I'm going to crash tonight, aren't I? Yup.
If you got pregnant right now, would you be able to handle it? What would you do?

Different Opinions on Giving Information
I'm both excited for the weekend and nervous. Excited for fun times with both friends and family; Not so excited for upcoming finals.
Here's a recent moment I had with my mother. I got a call from her, asking about a reference that was for my job working for her. As you know now, I got the internship that I applied for. (I'm actually going in to talk to them today) In my mind, I was going to tell her the next time I saw her, which I knew would be very soon. In my mind, when family members get together, that's when they announce new and exciting things in their life. Think of any movie where a family is having a type of reunion. In that situation, they'll say, "I got the promotion!" or "I found a new guy." Since she was asking about it though, I thought I'd say "Yeah, I got the internship" casually.
Next thing I know my mom is breaking down over the phone.
"You girls never tell me anything! It's like you don't want me in your lives!"
WHOA. Calm down! It was a storm of emotion being throw at me over the speaker. You see how I explained my vision of telling people things above? Apparently she didn't see it that way.
I find it a little bizarre that I got this reaction the more I think about it. My mom will casually throw around big news in conversation like it's no thing all of the time. She does it especially to my dad.
I also thought about how I usually tell people big information. Honestly, it takes me twenty minutes to figure out a good way to throw in the fact it's my birthday into the conversation. (Not for another seven months) Throwing out information like that casually is normal for me.
Personally, I don't think I've done anything wrong. That's my opinion.
I tried to make this sound the least amount of teen-angsty as possible, but it still sounds pretty much like that. I tried.
I had an excellent pi day yesterday, did you? I ended up worrying over nothing schedule wise, I enjoyed the company of delightful people, and discussed serious topics. For example, why cheesecake should be called cheese pie. It's made with a graham crust. Actually makes sense.
Next big thing on my to do list is Human Physiology Exam Studying! Don't know why that's all capitalized. Hm. If I do well enough on this exam tomorrow, I won't have to take the final. That will be nice, because then the only Tuesday final I'll have to worry about is economics.
On a last note, Community returns tonight! I feel like a bad fan for not watching it tonight, but I just can't. I need to keep my brain on the HPHY, but instead I'll reward myself with it after my test. Plus, I don't have a TV. So there's that.
How do you usually talk to other people about big news?

It's In My Genes
I should not be given large chunks of free time. It isn't good for my health.
In other news, I know I bitch about my room mates a lot... but I have just one more little thing to add. You know how I've mentioned they apparently forget things in the kitchen? Well, that goes for cooking things too. I talked before how an egg exploded in a pan before (that I actually forgot about until just now), but today was another little adventure into the almost burning down the apartment game. I walked into the kitchen to see some chicken in the oven. Okay, they're probably waiting to get it out after a little I think to myself. Later, I'm off to my last midterm but decided to check the oven. It's STILL IN THERE. Now it's black, and I knock on Lu's door for an answer. Turns out HaoChen (who's gone) put it in there for Lu. She knew it was in there. And she decided to TAKE A NAP.
You do not take naps if you're cooking something! If I hadn't checked before I'd left... good lord.
Okay, enough with the rant. Time to talk about other things!
It's always a funny thing to think about the traits you've picked up from your parents. No, I'm not talking about the way you say okay in that weird tone of voice like your mother. I'm talking about biology, specifically genes. On the outside, it appears that I've picked up more features from my mother's side than my father's side. Take a picture of my mom and me; you'll see the similarities. There's one other trait that comes from my mom's side that you usually wouldn't think about:
The hips.
As a fellow classmate said to me in high school, I've got some birthin' hips. (Should I take that as an insult?) Every woman on my mom's side of the family has them. This doesn't mean we've got booties though. No, we've got flat rears but the hips? Made for kids, apparently.
Even though I have a lot of my mom's traits, I have quite a few things from my dad's side. For one thing, I supposedly look identical to one of my aunts when she was a kid... Which I don't really want. There are many personal reasons why.
I also have acquired my dad's eye color, and apparently his bad teeth. Or so he tells me. I let it be an excuse as to why I've had three cavities in my life while my sister didn't even need to take her wisdom teeth out.
So from mom, we've got birthin' hips and face. From dad we've got eyes, teeth, and my shrimp allergy. Yeah, some great great uncle has a shellfish allergy. No idea until I had it.
That sounds about even. All in all, I think I've got some pretty swell genes.
Oh dear, I think I'm getting sick. It's what happens when you put your hands on your face all of the time. Terrible habit, should stop it. Night to you all!
What features/traits from your parents are the most recognizable for you?

Family Online
Midterm #2 is tomorrow. I don't think I know all of the material very well. Or, if I even know the material at all. Hoo boy. Thankfully, we have another midterm and the final, and whichever one we get the lowest grade in we can drop.
That doesn't mean I want to get a crappy grade though. That would be ridiculous.
Due to the fact that the world is getting digitalized, everyone seems to have some online identity. I certainly do, with the blog and things like Facebook. The Internet was made for my generation, or at least we have adapted to the Internet the best.
Then there are the parents. Oh, the parents. Once upon a time, Facebook was a place for college alum, and slowly it moved out to the rest of the world. Slowly the adults joined in.
I'm not the first to make this observation, but people tend to act differently on the Internet. I certainly try to censor myself, and there are others that have complete personality flips with the Internet. This can affect adults on the Internet.
For instance, I have an aunt who I adore in real life. She's fun to talk to, and always interesting. Online though? She's like a 14 year old girl who just learned how the Internet works. She'll post things like "LOL ohemgee!" She comments on statuses with the most awkward comments. It's like a completely different person, and it's not fun.
Then there's the instance with my mom. Oh mom, don't take this the wrong way. I love you, but you don't have to follow me on every Internet resource available. This is a conversation that occurred recently:
"So... you got a Twitter? ...Why?"
"To follow you!"
"Oh."
"I hate it."
Then why get it? Seems ridiculous to me. The point of making accounts online is for the purpose of using the for entertainment/business. That's why I didn't go up to her and say, "Hey I got a Twitter follow me" like I did for my blog. Because it wasn't really a thing I wanted her to follow. (Not like I say anything terrible, but still). I knew she wouldn't like a Twitter, so I didn't think she would get one. I suppose she found it from the blog, but I didn't even think she read this anymore.
My point is the Internet exaggerates things. So the embarrassing thing that your relative says at Thanksgiving will quadruple online. Oh dear.
Do your parents/relatives follow you on any Internet sites? Is it embarrassing or okay?

Economics and Superbowl
I suppose I’m glad that it’s Friday, but really I’d rather it be Saturday evening. Today was just not great.
Okay, only one thing was really that terrible, but it’s put me in quite a bad mood. Let’s just say that I’m terrified of getting a bad grade in Economics because of a quiz today. Old school test anxiety? It has come back with vengeance. Lately none of the information seems to be clicking with me no matter how much I study. I’m just going to have to get a 100% on the midterm, which is multiple choice. I’m better with those I think.
Alright, I’m sorry for the downer! I just had to get that off of my chest.
So Superbowl is coming up this weekend, and I'll be watching it along with my family like many others. For me, Superbowl is all about the commercials. Yes, this is another one of those, "It was better back in the day" things, but who cares? There are still plenty of funny/cute commercials that are shown during the Superbowl, and I adore them.As for the teams, I don't really care either way. I think I'm more partial towards the Giants, but if they don't win I won't be heartbroken. Plus, the only reason I care about them a tad more is because a guy who went to my high school played for them. I had to check to see if he still was, but now he's playing for the Raiders. Eh. I just remember a few years ago when the Giants were in the Superbowl again, and I was yelling, "That guy went to my high school! That guy went to my high school!" Yup.
Funny thing- when I first found out about a professional football player being from my home town I thought, "Nooo... Now there's even less of a chance of getting famous." Because famous people coming from the same small town is very rare. Because I was very concerned with that at the time. Oh dear.
Tomorrow brings more Duck TV filming. I don't know when I'm getting my run in... but I'll get it in there somewhere.
Are you watching the Superbowl? Who are you rooting for?

The Exciting News Covered in Worry
You know how I've been constantly talking about studying abroad? Well, I guess that and running. Anyway...
I got into the program that I applied for. Hooray? Yes, of course, but there are things in the process that have made me nervous.
Truthfully, I was accepted on Monday into the program. I didn't tell anyone until Wednesday when I told my sister. I waited until Friday to tell my mom. Why have I been so hesitant to say so?
Of course for me, it's been because of finances.
I constantly worry about money, even if I shouldn't worry as much. And studying abroad takes a big chunk of money. Recently, I've had other reasons to think more about how I spend money. Those recent worries have made me reconsider if I should even go. I always worry, "Will I have enough?" Sure, I would most likely be able to get help from my parents. However, I'd like to get as little help as possible from my parents, simply because I hate to ask them for money. I feel guilty. They've already supported me so much, it would be unfair to ask them for help on a trip that I alone would go on.
Now, I've looked at it a bit more. More than my obsessive analysis of it before. It seems that I'll be able to pay for it myself, but there are a few details to work out including trying to get money other ways.
Therefore for February on, I'm going to work on spending as little as possible. On average, I've gone out for dinner 4-5 times a month for food. Now I'm going to allow myself to eat out once. Even fewer movies than usual, and I didn't even watch that many before. Keep searching for jobs, find other ways to earn cash. Every little bit counts.
The moment where I had a bit of a revelation came while I was talking to my sister the other day. I don't remember exactly what she said, but she said something along the lines of, "You should be thankful for the experience. You worked really hard to get the application together, and you should be excited about it."
She's right. I should be excited that I was accepted. I shouldn't let the worry of finances shadow the excitement of traveling abroad (though I still need to worry about it). Sometimes, I just need to calm the freak down.
That's that. If all goes according to plan, I'm studying abroad next fall in London. Yup. Besides, I'm getting more financial information emailed to me next week. I can start re-worrying about it then.
Have you ever learned exciting news that was blanketed by another fear?

Cringe-Worthy
Blaugh. For quite some time, I was excited to be on break. Now that I've been on it for about a week and a half, I'm going stir crazy. Pretty much I've been feeling like this:
Yup.
Yesterday I picked up my epi pen prescription. It came with a little practice pen, so I can practice stabbing myself. Hooray. When I showed my sister the practice pen, she instantly asked, "Can I stab you?" Because an older sibling's goals in life include terrifying/annoying their younger sibling. (Yes, I know you can read this Chloe. I say this to you in real life anyway.) Besides, the doctor told me I should have other people around me know how to do it just in case. When she went to stab it... I recoiled in horror. There's no way I'm going to be able to have someone stab that thing into my leg, let alone stab it in myself.
Usually I've been fine around needles. If I don't see the needle itself, I'm alright with it. Show me that needle going into skin though? Euegh. I'm like that for most things involving harm to the body. Show me a person with their bone jutting out of their skin? I feel that pain. This is one of the many reasons why I could never be a doctor... besides being terrible at science.
A clever conclusion to this post is lost on me, so I suppose I'll abruptly end it. It happens. (Geez I've been saying that a lot.)
Do grotesque injuries freak you out? Or are you calm and collected when it comes to that stuff?

Saturday Night and Such
Whenever I have trouble starting out a blog, I start surfing the web. It happens. I suppose it's because my thoughts are a tad scattered tonight.
Good news on the book selling front: I already sold a book! Granted, it was probably for a lot cheaper than it should have been, but I think I made a decent buck. Well, once I get paid.
On another note, new SNL tonight! Huzzah! I keep forgetting what day it is, and it's barely been two days. It may seem like I've been watching a lot of television, but I'm really not. One thing I had to watch? My Theatre professor from last year being on a television show. WHAT. That's the craziest thing ever! So nicely done Ted. Sorry you had to be eaten by rats. (Grimm is a pretty morbid show.)
My aunt was thinking about me when she saw these adorable little loaf pans!
I can't wait to use them! Also, can you tell my family members like to shop? They just buy things... even if it's not for a holiday gift or anything. Just because it's there. I it's a very nice trait, but I'm glad I don't have a weakness for buying things "just because they're there". I'm surprised the members of my family haven't gone broke.
I simply never buy things on a whim, really. That includes for myself. The last thing I bought "on a whim" for myself was in October, when I bought a Portland Marathon Mug, a headband, and a sticker for my car. Unless you count half marathon registration in November? I dunno.
I really thought I would have a lot more to say today, but honestly I do not. It's just one of those days I suppose.
What was the last thing you bought "on a whim?"

Birthday Association
Yes, it's totally acceptable to have "One of those weeks." Mine would have been like that if it weren't for the break I have tomorrow.
Today I looked at my calendar and realized, "Hey, it's my grandma's birthday! I need to call her!"
Did I have her birthday written down on the calendar? Oh no. Instead, the words on said calendar were "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day".
Needless to say, this is a horrible way of remembering your grandmother's birthday. However, it's how I've always remembered it because of the story we were told. Yes, one year on grandma's birthday they were listening to the radio... AND THE BOMBS HIT. While she was happily opening her presents seconds before.
No one wants to associate terrible things with happy occasions, like your grandmother being alive for another year. Yet, I'm always able to remember her birthday. I also don't this I would remember the day of Pearl Harbor, unless I needed to for some history class. That sound terrible? You know that's the only reason you remember dates like that.
Back then, I would assume it would be similar to having your birthday on the same day as 9/11.
Actually, I know someone who has his birthday on said day. He has some swell muttonchops.
I don't mean to be morbid, I'm simply stating facts. It makes me think of my birthday. I don't have any major events that occurred on my birthday other than it's National Peanut Day. (Well, except for one site saying apparently the universe was created on my birthday. But that's another story.) It would only be a tragedy if I had a nut allergy.
I've always remembered birthdays because of holidays too. Both one of my cousins and one of my best friends have birthdays the day after Valentine's Day. My dad has the same birthday as Mickey Mouse. Okay, that's not why I know my dad's birthday, but I think that's the coolest fact.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm terrible at remembering birthdays and the only way I'm able to do it is by date association. Sounds about right.
Other than that, only have one final left! Friday at 8:00 AM. Economics. Hoo boy. But that does mean I have pretty much all of tomorrow free. Except for another part of my HPHY final I have to finish online, which is basically the same test, but we get to do it on the computer and have all of the answers. Hmm. Those are disgustingly awful sentances, please ignore their structures. Honestly, I should stop talking while I'm behind.
Do you know anyone with a birthday on a holiday/significant day?

The Kid of the Group
Welp, I'm back home working on homework that is due tomorrow. And, no, you don't have to ask me why I wasn't working on it in the car today. The reason for that is because I didn't have Internet, and that's all that I needed for the assignment. Yes, not a smart move on my part, but I wasn't expecting to get home on Sunday evening. What can you do?
As for my cousin, she's doing good. She had a slight concussion, and just needs to take the week off. She's going to have killer bruises on her face from getting smacked in the nose though. Ouch. Last night happened to be pretty stressful because it took so long to find out anything. We were in there for two hours before they finally scanned her head. What was going on for those two hours?
My original thought process was that this would be a relaxing weekend. Just a weekend to chill, not worry, all of that. The thing is, I didn't think about who I'd be riding with. My company were three... older ladies? I don't really like putting my mom in that category. Still that's what we've got.
Normally, a group like this is fine, if they're mixed with other groups. But when it's just an older squad and your 20 year old self?... Be prepared for two days of being told you're constantly wrong, and feeling like you're being treated like a child. At least that's how it felt for me. Almost every comment was, "No, that's not right" towards me. Or "No, you didn't." Or maybe some variation of Hannah doing something wrong. The other half of the time, it seemed to be that whatever I said wasn't heard, or was just ignored. Basically, I just felt like I was being treated like a little kid. I bet that's how I'm viewed, just because that's how we tend to view some people we know. There are cousins that I have that I have a hard time imagining them as anything older than 5. It's just not a fun seat to be thrown in.
This might make me sound like even more of a kid, I know. Still, I just want to feel like I'm actually... respected? I'm not sure what I'm trying to say, but I think respected is the closest word to what I want to say. And I'll admit, I didn't handle it the best way I could have but when it comes to a boiling point, you tend to snap.
On the other hand, it was good I went up I suppose. I was extra support when she needed it, even if she probably didn't. Plus, I got to see a real life Oscar. That was cool.
It was at Gonzaga, because Bing Crosby has a big memorial thing there. Including his Oscar. Yeah.
Well, I've got to get back to this assignment. It might be a late night, just due to the fact that I have no idea where to find information on the female menstrual system. Yeah, that's my homework. Not a fan of Human Physiology.
Does feeling like you're the little kid in a group ever go away? I hope so.

The Reason for Washington.
Correction: Now I'm in Washington.
Currently I'm in the ER with my grandma and my cousin's grandma. The whole reason for the random trip up to WA was to watch my cousin play basketball. A fun little trip. Unfortunately, my cousin may have gotten a concussion, hence the waiting in an ER. Plus, this is her 4th (maybe) concussion. Not good, especially since this could end her bball career for her school. So, well wishes to her!
That's really all I have to say for now, because that's all I can really think about. Wish her well, and I'll see y'all later.

Entering the Season
Seasons can be pretty meaningful for many people. There are seasons like fall that people enjoy for the cooler weather and falling leaves Then there are other seasons like the season of giving, which can start right around Thanksgiving and end after Christmas. Basically, there are seasons for everything, and right now there is no exception.
We've officially entered what I'd like to call Fat Season.
Fat season is known to many, but most people don't call it that. They call it the Holiday Season, yet a lot of women know it's a time of food, food, and more food.
I'm not saying it's a bad season. Once this season kicks into high gear, it includes time spent with family, fun free time, and happy memories. On the other hand, why do you think so many people make New Year's resolutions to lose weight? Two words: Fat Season.
There's delicious food everywhere, and food is given as gifts for many people. Don't think that people are going to be making healthy food, unless you proclaim to everyone that that's all you want. The truth in that statement is you're probably going to want the junk food, and most people will end up giving it to you anyway.
Yes, I've read the articles. Thanksgiving is only one day, don't make it into a week. You don't have to have food as gifts. We try, and as anyone knows, it's hard. Still, we try. That's all we really can do, right?
I'm not going to deny that there are always roadblocks in the way of healthy eating. Fat season might be a time where it's harder, but you're almost always going to have temptations to behave badly (with your food choices). Fat season is just a little harder.
You might be wondering why my fat season starts so early. That's because that's when the celebrations begin.
Yesterday was my sister's birthday, and there have been many an opportunity to celebrate. Her birthday marks the start of my Fat Season. The week after her birthday comes my birthday, meaning more treats. A week passes, then it's Halloween! My favorite candy in fun sized packaging? Yes please.
The season goes into a bit of a lull, then picks back up just in time for a few birthdays and Thanksgiving. Next of course is Christmas, and you know the time in between that is crazy. Top it off with New Year's, and you've got yourself another Fat Season come and gone. You're welcome.
I love when this celebration season starts, but I'm not looking to celebrate with some pals known as flubber attached to my body. I think I'll challenge Fat Season. I'm not sure what the challenges will be other than not gaining weight, but I'll make them. Hopefully Fat Season won't get to y'all either.
Bring it on, Fat Season.

So That Happened.
Yesterday, I became one of the 1%. The 1% of the population that has run a marathon.
Now I'm not going to go into some emotional essay about what the whole thing means, or any of that. Really, I'm not sure I feel the emotional storm brewin' like that. Hell, I thought I was going to cry at the end because of how crazy the whole thing was, but that didn't really go through my mind at that moment. So here we go, a recap of my first marathon.
The night of, I was already working on a delightful cold. My forehead was burning up, and was thinking, "Crap, should I even be running? Don't they say it's a bad idea to run with a fever? Oh god."
I started getting ready two times that night, thinking it was time to get up. No, it wasn't at 1:00 AM nor was it at 2:30 AM time to get ready. For some reason, I thought it was.
For the first few miles, things were great. I was feeling good, legs were good, all that jazz. By mile nine, that feeling was starting to go. Weirdly enough, the whole time my legs were fine. It was my stomach that was giving me issues.
For most of the race, I felt really nauseous. I think it was too much sugar the week before? I have no idea. All I know is that it was not a good feeling.
Other than that, things were pretty good. I continuously ran the whole time except for dashing to a bathroom and out. That's probably why at the end of the race, my legs suddenly went, "What the hell have you been doing?" and started aching like crazy. That plus the already upset stomach? Not a good combo. A lady in the bathroom next to me asked if I was okay because I was repeating "Ohgodohgodohgod" over and over again. That's not awkward at all.
There was a lot to see. It is a big city, after all. I managed to get one mid-running picture on the bridge. Cool thing was, only marathon participants were allowed on it. How exclusive.
The ending shoot was very cool, simply because there was so much stuff. There was a ton of food, but because I felt so sick I didn't want to eat. There was a lot of other stuff though that was super cool. For instance, the Portland marathon finishers get no only a shirt before the race, but they get a shirt afterwards that says " Portland Marathon Finisher" on it. We also received our medals, a medallion, a necklace charm, a rose, and a tree. Yes, a tree. Currently my Douglas Fir is sitting in my house, waiting to be planted. I have no idea where. The other part of the finish included getting a finisher's picture, which I've been waiting for impatiently to be put online.
It was nice that a lot of my family members came out to see me. This came in handy when tired legs wanted a break and had a piggyback ride available.
What wasn't so good about a lot of people was too many people freaking out about what to do when all I wanted to do was sit and warm up. Big groups can't decide things very well. What made me sad was that a lot of my friends really didn't seem to care, and it's just because it's an important thing to me. I've been talking about it, but many of my friends didn't even acknowledge it. Except Aaron, who ran it as well. Boy is a beast!
Oh, and I must not forget the swag. Most of my swag came from the race day, but I did get some things at the expo. Mostly magazines. I bought the mug, sticker, and bondiband myself.
Right now, I feel like I should be feeling a lot more special. That might sound weird, but it's a pretty big deal. However, it just feels like it's Monday. No biggie. I just wanted someone to comment on my shirt. (I wore my finisher shirt.)
Something no one ever told me about running a marathon? You get totally bloated afterwards. Or maybe that's just me. At least I don't think it's fat. My stomach feels too full of air for that. I think.
Will I ever do a marathon again? I hope so. What I'd like to do is a marathon for every decade of my life, starting with the teens. Now I've got ten years until I have to do one for my twenties. Perhaps the 50th anniversary? (This was the 40th anniversary)
For now, I just need to crash. I had to stay up late last night to finish homework, and because I was so tired I ended up sobbing about how tired I was when I got to bed. Yeah, I wish I were joking. I was sobbing because I wasn't going to get sleep, which kept me from falling asleep. We can be stupid when we're tired.
Really, all I can say is I can't believe I did that.
Now I'm not going to go into some emotional essay about what the whole thing means, or any of that. Really, I'm not sure I feel the emotional storm brewin' like that. Who cares about all of that? I ran a freakin' marathon! Plus, I happened to see some pretty crazy/wonderful/bizarre/cool things. Like:
- Musicians playing everywhere, including a bus blasting the song "I'm Sexy and I Know It", great for getting pumped up
- Some awesome signs, like "Your legs are sore because you're kicking ass-phalt!" and others I can't remember now.
- Justin Bieber running. Well, it looked a lot like him just will a pre-puberty voice.
- People giving out the craziest snacks, including bananas, apples, oranges, skittles, pretzels, candy corn, and beer.
- A random hobo peeing by the side of the course. Told you there were some weird things, it's Portland.

Family Closeness and a Race
I can't believe that it's already so late. Gosh, I'm tired.
Today we all went to a potluck. By we, I mean my cousins and I. The potluck involved relatives that I knew... sorta.
I have a good relationship with most of my family. I'm really close with quite a lot with my cousins. However, there are some family members that I'm not that close with. You see, I've got a huge family if you count all of the second cousins and all that jazz. Therefore, it's hard to get connected with all of my family members, especially since there are some family members that I don't even realize are related to me. It gets confusing. Heck, I can't even remember all of the names of all of my second cousins. I can't even remember the names of people that I meet everyday. It's a problem.
I know the faces, just not the names. Am I the only one with this problem?
Well, the other big plans for this weekend is a race tomorrow. Nothing big, just a 5k. It's the Race for the Cure, and my family has been doing it for years. It's odd, because I have to run two extra miles afterwards for my running schedule... so there's that. Also, we have to wake up at 5:30. Augh.
Are you close to your extended family?

Family Comparisons
I'm still thinking that it's August. Not really a good thing, eh?
The moving extravaganza ended today, for I moved into my apartment. Hmm. I suppose that's a lie, because I still don't have a bed there, and I'm currently back at my parent's house. Yuppers.
Earlier today, I was thinking about comparisons. Not like the comparison I've talked about before (grades, skills, etc.), but when other people compare you to someone else.
Personally, I hate being compared to other people. When I was younger, I would tell people that I wanted to be the original, don't compare me to that person. Honestly, I think it's still a good way to think about ourselves. For instance, there are plenty of quotes out there explaining how there's no other person like you, so why be someone else? ...Or something along those lines. I'm getting off topic though.
The point is, comparisons are not my thing. I'm fine with being compared to my mom- I get why I'm getting the comparisons. We're very similar. However, there are times when I really don't want the comparison.
"Oh, that's so like , haha!"
You recoil back in horror. Really? Like that person? What if it's a person you really don't want to be compared to? Ever? I saw this happen to my sister, and saw her eyes grow large in terror. Did they really just say that? Yes. Yes they did. And they find it to be a loving comment. Which you do not agree with.
And I know this horror, because I've had it happen myself.
You can't say anything either, because they'll know your true bitchy thoughts.
I'll admit it. I'm a bitch. I know it, but I also know proper etiquette. And that means don't say that you hate their comparison.
The one comparison I surprisingly don't mind? When my cousin calls me Alicia. It's just funny.
Have you ever been compared to someone you wished you weren't compared to?

Road Trip Recap
I can't believe it's already Saturday again. I didn't feel like I was gone for about a week, but here we are.
Now that I'm at my own computer again, I can write posts that have (some) sense in them. Truthfully, while I was on my trip I didn't want to be writing at all, but the whole thing involved a lack of planning. Anywho...
It's funny how dependent we are on technology. While we were on our trip, we used our phones for directions, looking up places to go, information... until we crossed the border. Once we passed that border, it became: "Would you like to pay a fortune on phone usage?" I think not.
I could go on and on, but I should get going. I had to drive the car home from my cousins' house last night, so the mom and sis do not have a way to get home... Yeah.
In other news, today's run was good. 20 miles running, then a 2.8 mile walk/jog back home. Did not plan very well for that. Still, I just wanted to get 20 miles in, and I did. Yes!
What was the last trip you took? Was it with family or friends?
Now that I'm at my own computer again, I can write posts that have (some) sense in them. Truthfully, while I was on my trip I didn't want to be writing at all, but the whole thing involved a lack of planning. Anywho...
If you've seen any of my gibberish from this week, you might have known my sister, mom and I road tripped it up towards the north. On our first day, we ended up not actually getting to, you know, road trip status. We went to where I pretty much go every weekend, my cousins' house. The reason we ended up staying the night was because we ended up being part of a cleaning spree that happened in my grandma's room while she was away. I don't know if it's age, or collecting tendencies, but if my grandma lived alone she might end up having a house on Hoarders. I found a ton of empty containers, a good amount of toothbrushes... Ridiculous.
Our next stop was in the next state, Washington. As I said, drivers up there be crazy! We talked about how maybe the cops don't care as much about speed laws because they have sales tax, so money distribution with taxes is different. I dunno.
I don't know who out there is from Washington, but we've decided y'all are scrappy. Along with your zippy cars, my mom and sister spotted signs that apparently said "Don't litter, or we will hurt you." Something along those lines.
We were able to stay the night at my aunt's house up there, which was really nice. They live by some pretty nice houses. (Their house is nice too.)
While we were in Washington, we spent a day in Seattle. I've never been to Seattle, (except when I was really young), so it was fantastic. While there, I bought a nice cheese. Then my mom bought me two more, some salami, and a mini baguette. Another nice thing about traveling with family? I think so.
Buying my cheese. It was called... Manchego? It was from Spain! Delish.
Oh, and a trip up the Space Needle!
Geez, I need to start wearing some color on my lips. And cut my hair. And other stuff.
My comment on the people of Vancouver still stands. Obese people do not exist up there, and there are hardly any slightly overweight people. It was a bit intimidating, but at the same time kind of motivating. So if you want to stay thin, go to Vancouver and live there.
Being on a running schedule is kind of weird on vacation because you have to plan around it. There were times that I hated it because I felt like everyone was waiting on me to get my run done to do anything, but I'm glad I did. Running in Washington was extremely hilly, but not a bad run at all. Then there was my run around Stanley Park in Vancouver, which was fantastic. Seriously, if you're a runner and you go up there on vacation, go there. It's about 6 miles, but if you take a wrong turn and keep running on the beach, you can get your 8 miles in like I did. Another nice thing about my Stanley Park run was my sister rented a bike and went along with me. I've been running alone all this time, so it was really nice to have some company.
A lot of this trip involved visiting markets of some kind. They were cool markets!
Good gosh, I love cities. I told my sister to punch me if in the future I don't end up living in a city for at least a year of my life.
In other news, today's run was good. 20 miles running, then a 2.8 mile walk/jog back home. Did not plan very well for that. Still, I just wanted to get 20 miles in, and I did. Yes!
What was the last trip you took? Was it with family or friends?

Impromptu Vacations Ahoy!
What happens when you, your sister, and your mom hastily decide to go on a road trip? With no officially planned paths, destinations, and a rough amount of time set out, we were out on our adventure.
...Which ended up putting us at cousins' house on the way up. Not really a road trip, but still fun. However, our road trip is still a go. The idea of a road trip has been floating around for awhile, but nothing official was planned. And still, it's not really planned, but we'll see how things go. We're just going on north!
Have you ever gone on an impromptu road trip? Or any other impromptu vacation?

The Posting Schedule
You may have noticed that I didn't write up a post yesterday. Yeah. So much for my write a post everyday goal.
However, I will (try) to post everyday continuing on as usual.
Why wasn't there a post yesterday? Well, there was a lack of planning for one thing. Another thing is, lately I haven't really known anything good to write about. Heck, I might have not known what to write about tonight if not for missing yesterday. Besides, I was having a mini breakdown by the time I got home at midnight, so writing a blog post was not on my mind. (My schedule was off, my mind went into a frenzy of things I'm not doing right... It wasn't pretty).
It's like a diet. If you fall off the horse, you're not just going to go pig out because you messed up. You get back on that horse! Then again, it's a freaking blog. Not a big deal.
In other news, just came back from a family friend's wedding. It was really lovely, in a vineyard. Also one of the shortest ceremonies I've ever seen. Honestly, it was about ten minutes long. Wild.
That's really all I have to say right now!
Do you have a specific posting schedule? What do you do when you have trouble completing it?

Sweets and Strength Training
You know those people who always talk about what food they should be eating, or what they should be doing. Every little thing that passes by their mouth needs to have a comment included. No one likes that person.
...but tonight, that's going to be me. Sort of.
For the most part, I eat a pretty good diet. I make sure to eat my fruits and veggies, I eat wheat instead off white. It's not like I'm eating those weird veggies that apparently are what keep Superman alive, but still it's decent. There is one part of my diet that is terrible, and that is sugar. As in, I eat way too much of it.
I just love sweets. Supposedly, sweets are making a comeback. I've been seeing a lot of magazines articles supporting the consumption of sweets. After the onslaught of sweets being the worst thing in the world, apparently it's okay to have a little. I have to say, I was in on this trend before sweets became a thing again. I'm losing track of what I'm talking about, so I'll just say that they do say a little bit of sweet is good, but in moderation.
I have the problem where I just can't stop. When I get sweets, I have a hard time controlling how many I eat. That? That needs to change, because well... I'm heavier than when I started college. Sure, it's only a couple of pounds, but that could slowly creep up. Plus, I need to learn a little something about control. One dessert (or sweet thing) a day! It's not just for my current health, but it's for my health in the future.
Which brings me to point number two. Strength Training, or, the more open ended exercise other than running. After taking today off from running as well (guh), I came to the realization that other than running for exercise, in the words of Prince Naveen, "I don't really know how to do anything." Yeah, I watched The Princess and The Frog at my cousin's house again. Gosh that movie is cute. What was I saying? Oh yes.
Sure, I know how to do other exercises but in my mind it seems like it takes so much brain power to create a regiment. Yes I know how stupid that sounds. With running, it's easy to make up a schedule. Heck, I already have an idea for what my running schedule will be after the marathon! With anything else, it seems so complicated. The real reason for someone like a personal trainer isn't for the workout plans (mostly), it's for the motivation.
I know how much I'm sounding like one of those weight loss shows. You know, where the person is like "Boo hoo, I don't know how I got to this size, nothing I do is my fault!" Sometimes, I can't stand those people in those things but I guess I can say I'm seeing a glimpse on their side of the argument. Although hell if I have anything on their argument. For instance, today I was talking to my aunt about BMI and she said, "Huh, I thought you were under the normal range." I'm definitely not, but it made me realize a little about how we view ourselves. I'm not big, but I still have insecurities. Mostly, I've just been feeling marshmallowy from a lack of muscle, and that's a sucky feeling.
So, my plan is to start doing something in the strength training realm. I'm going to try and make a boot camp type thing up for myself, and I'll keep y'all updated. If no updates, you'll know I'm being a lazy ass.
Well that's what's been on my mind lately. I'll try to be more entertaining tomorrow.
What habits do you need to start working on?

Driving: The Good and The Bad
Let's talk about driving. Okay? Okay.
I know that I'm not a fantastic driver. I also know that I'm not a terrible driver either. If I were to grade myself on my driving, I'd say I'm a B- or a C+. Alright, but not amazing. My turns are way too wide, and I can drift to certain sides. Definitely not perfect.
That doesn't mean I don't have my golden moments though. Which brings me to last night.
After the concert, it was an hour and a half drive back to my cousin's house. We were both exhausted, so we stocked up on the caffeine and headed out into the night.
We finally got to the point where were about 15 minutes from her home. It was out in the country, and the speed was 55. It was dark, and hard to see anything. The road was empty except for our car...
...And suddenly two deer.
This could have ended up me telling you guys a terrible story about how my car was totaled. Or maybe not even being able to tell you, but no. I have skills, and was able to stop the car with plenty of space to spare. Perhaps this isn't a true feat, but I certainly felt proud of myself. After we had let the deer cross and returned home, my cousin replied,
"If that we me, we would have totally hit those."
A bit of an ego boost? You bet. It just helps to reassure me that I might just be an okay driver. Despite what my sister feels whenever we're in the car together.
Before we go, I have a final note on my driving. I have an odd quirk when I'm driving, and that's I blink for basically everything. Everyone I know makes fun of me for it.
Oh, that includes parking spaces. I blink into parking spaces. I swear, my driver's ed teacher told me you should. So I do.
