Movie Night and Other Thoughts

I am quite tired, but I have things to talk about.

Mainly The Artist. Or, how much I want you to go see The Artist. Seriously, it's fantastic.
I hate to sound pretentious, but the use of sound was simply AMAZING. It certainly was a silent film, but at the same time... it wasn't. Hard to explain, which is why you should go see it. The characters were expressed perfectly, and every element was done brilliantly. Y'know when a movie just makes you feel good? This was one of those movies.
There's also something about Jean Dujardin that is simply delightful. His smile is so... charming. I don't know what it is, but it's just charming.
As a random note, John Goodman pops up in there too. I feel like John Goodman just seems to pop up wherever he likes. Not a diss, just an observation. I mean, he's Sulley and I adore that movie. (Props if you know what I'm talking about.)

As for the rest of life, it's been a relaxing day. A lot of huddling next to the heater. Today I've been feeling freezing all day, and I've been told that means I'm on the way to a cold. I've been fighting off a cold already! Bah. Oh well. Thank goodness no tests are coming up.

This evening I was compared to the actress from Beginners. Hm. I've never gotten that before. I suppose I could look like Melanie Laurent. Yes, I had to look up the name. She was the girl from Inglorious Basterds as well.

After a phone call from me mum, I realized I shouldn't be bothered about the Hao moving out without telling me thing. If he's paying still, it should be fine. Still, I just tend to take it personally. I can't help it! What can you do?

Oscars are tomorrow! Whatever shall I wear? We'll think of something.

What was the last movie you watched that made you feel good/you really liked?

Family Comparisons

I'm still thinking that it's August. Not really a good thing, eh?

The moving extravaganza ended today, for I moved into my apartment. Hmm. I suppose that's a lie, because I still don't have a bed there, and I'm currently back at my parent's house. Yuppers.

Earlier today, I was thinking about comparisons. Not like the comparison I've talked about before (grades, skills, etc.), but when other people compare you to someone else.

Personally, I hate being compared to other people. When I was younger, I would tell people that I wanted to be the original, don't compare me to that person. Honestly, I think it's still a good way to think about ourselves. For instance, there are plenty of quotes out there explaining how there's no other person like you, so why be someone else? ...Or something along those lines. I'm getting off topic though.

The point is, comparisons are not my thing. I'm fine with being compared to my mom- I get why I'm getting the comparisons. We're very similar. However, there are times when I really don't want the comparison.

"Oh, that's so like          , haha!"

You recoil back in horror. Really? Like that person? What if it's a person you really don't want to be compared to? Ever? I saw this happen to my sister, and saw her eyes grow large in terror. Did they really just say that? Yes. Yes they did. And they find it to be a loving comment. Which you do not agree with.

And I know this horror, because I've had it happen myself.

You can't say anything either, because they'll know your true bitchy thoughts.

I'll admit it. I'm a bitch. I know it, but I also know proper etiquette. And that means don't say that you hate their comparison.

The one comparison I surprisingly don't mind? When my cousin calls me Alicia. It's just funny.

Like, whatever!
Have you ever been compared to someone you wished you weren't compared to?

Changes in Myself, Considering Yourself a Runner, and Differences in Running Practices

I remembered one of the other things that I need to get done in the future: Get a haircut. My hair is getting really long, and something new needs to occur.

Today I thought about how much I've changed since just last year. It's crazy. Last year I was known as the art chick, the girl who was the only non-stoner among stoners. I didn't get that great of grades. Now, I get really good grades. I'm a girl who runs a lot. Plus the thing is, I feel like I've changed mentally. Sure, there are a lot of habits that I have that I've always had, but somehow I know that how I think about certain things is very different. When mentioning that I'd changed from "That art chick" to "That girl that runs a lot", I was greeted with,
"Well that's not much better."
... Um, excuse me? What the hell does that mean? I'll let you know that running is amazing, thank you very much!

Since I'm on the subject of running, I also thought about my standing as a runner today.

Somehow, it sort of feels like I can't really call myself a runner still, but then I think about what that means. I don't go more than a day without running. I make sure that I schedule time for certain runs during the week. I think about how far I can go. I talk about running far too often. Still, I start to think, "I'm not a runner. I don't run as much as other people do, and I don't care so much about speed."
The mileage thing worries me in training, because I've heard of some people running a ton a miles before things. On the other hand, I've seen plenty of training schedules that say I'm doing just fine. Really, what does that matter? I care about running. I run a decent amount. I should feel proud to say that indeed, I am a runner.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned this here in the blog, but I have ran on a cross country team since middle school. Sure, I ran back then, but I was never very into it back then. I started to wonder, "Why do I like to run so much now?", and the answer is simple: Competition.
I hate running with other people, because I'm always comparing myself to then. If I'm running too fast, I look like a jerk. If I'm running too slow, I look like a loser. Running with my sister? Probably one of the worst ideas. Especially since one thing I happen to do is breathe quite heavily. Sure, it may sound bad, but that's just how I breathe. However, when I'm running with my sister and I'm breathing heavily, this happens:
Chloe: "Jeez, why the heck are you breathing so hard?"
Me: *tries to stop breathing so hard, ends up hyperventilating*
It's not a good cycle. When I run, it's not for periods of time. It's for miles. I've read both ways of running are good. I simply prefer my way.

This summer, I think I'm going to try running with people again. I may be slower, but it'll be nice to have company for longer runs if I do. Who knows? Maybe they'll push me to go faster.

I think I've either hit or gone over 500 miles in these shoes. Dangit, I didn't want to get new ones, but I'm pretty sure I need to. Goodness!

On a final note, I really want this:

An art student made it, and it's currently on display outside of the art building. I want it. I can set it in my dorm!

When was the last time you realized you've changed a lot? How did you change?

The Ability to Function Based on Sleep, and Unexpected Actions From Valley Girl Types

Woowhee. I always know when it's Wednesday.

As far as my first year of college has gone, I've been able to have a pretty routine schedule of sleep. For both of my first two terms, I've had Monday through Thursday classes at 8:00 in the morning. Because of this, I tend to go to sleep at 11:00 pm on the nights before those classes. I'll admit that I don't roll like most college students roll, staying up all night and functioning on two hours of sleep. The thing is though, I can't function on that much sleep. If I don't get around seven to eight hours, I get cranky. I doze off. I simply can't function well!
I know, perhaps I should work on being able to function on little sleep. Alas, it really hasn't been necessary. Surprisingly enough, I have somehow been able to budget my time well enough to not have to stay up much past my personal curfew.

Today was not a good example of this though. A certain project took so long I ended up getting into the shower at 10:30 PM.
Strangely enough, my 8:00 AM class is cancelled tomorrow. I may be staying up an hour later, but I'm going to get an hour more of sleep in. Precise planning or a funny coincidence? You decide.

While drying my hair, one of my hallmates came into the bathroom. She was one of the girls who looks valley girl perfect, you know what I mean? Tall, skinny, blond? Having someone like that walk past you is kind of intimidating. You start thinking, "Why is she all perfect? Why am I not like that?" Anywho, back to my point. While thinking about the comparison game, she passed by me, went to the bathroom... and didn't wash her hands.
Personally? I find that disgusting. I almost yelled out to her, "GIRL, you better come back here and wash your hands ya nasty!" Just goes to show you that you can't judge a book by its cover... actually, is that the right analogy? I say it fits for now.

...The titles of my posts are becoming more and more ridiculous. Pish, I find them entertaining.

I'm so glad that the week is almost over! Spring break is so close, I can almost feel the rays of sun beaming down on my face.

How do you function without sleep?

Up and Down and The Comparison Game

All day I've been up and down. One minute I'm full of energy, the next I'm extremely tired. Huh.

Today we got our midterms back for English. I just have to say, I was estatic when I got it back... for the first few seconds I was anyways. Then the words heard around me made me look down upon myself. It's the comparison game. We all play it. No matter how hard we try, we are always comparing ourselves to others.
The thing is, I actually got an A on my midterm! I was so excited! It was when I saw that two people around me had gotten 100% including my study partner, I felt less thrilled. Why?! That's a great grade! However, just because it wasn't perfect like the other people, it didn't mean as much. UGH! I gotta stop doing that to myself.
Seriously though, I am really happy that I got an A. (Also, I got a B on my essay, so not too bad!)

I'm really quite excited for this weekend! So many things happening, so little time! Does it ever feel sometimes like there's nothing for awhile and then everything all at once? Ah, life.

Glee tonight! Woo! I hope that everyone has a lovely evening.

Do you compare yourself to others? How do you stop yourself?
