My motto for the day seems to be "Good things come to those who wait."
Well, I'm not sure if it fits for everything today, but it's a start.
One of the good things that came from waiting? Well, I applied for a paid internship recently and... I got it! I just found out last night, hooray! I suppose you could say that waiting to tell the world was good on my part, just because what if I didn't get it? Right? That's how I think anyways.
My main "Good things come to those who wait" point for the day is from my run today. For my runs, I tend to cut it into sections. On average, songs usually about 3-4 minutes. When three songs have passed, I assume I've gone a little bit around a mile in distance. (9-10 minute miles) I told myself that I would run for at least 60 minutes, and I would check my time at the end of the 9th song (about a half hour in). As my run went on, that was pushed back to the 12th song. Then to the 15th song. By the time I looked at it, I had only three minutes left! The more you check something, the longer it seems to take to get to the ending point. If I had checked it at the 9th song mark, I would still have about a half hour to go. I would have wanted to check constantly after the initial check, and that would have been annoying. "I still have so much left!" I would exclaim. Instead, when I didn't check my time I didn't think about it as much.
The last "Good things come to those who wait" idea for the day comes from just cooking, really. Sure, sometimes it's easy to throw some food together and call it good. On the other hand, when you actually take time to make something, it usually tastes a lot better. True story.
I'm a bit concerned with the coherency of this post. I've written more coherent posts while affected by other sources, but there is currently nothing affecting me. That is a bit concerning. Still, I wanted to get my thoughts out.
In other life news, my cold is disappearing quickly! Nice. I'm kind of surprised by it really. I pulled a college kid move and slept in until 11. Well, after waking up at 7 for an hour. Then falling back asleep at 8 because I thought it would make me feel better. And it did. What a concept.
What examples do you have of "Good things come to those who wait?"

Movie Night and Other Thoughts
I am quite tired, but I have things to talk about.
Mainly The Artist. Or, how much I want you to go see The Artist. Seriously, it's fantastic.
I hate to sound pretentious, but the use of sound was simply AMAZING. It certainly was a silent film, but at the same time... it wasn't. Hard to explain, which is why you should go see it. The characters were expressed perfectly, and every element was done brilliantly. Y'know when a movie just makes you feel good? This was one of those movies.
There's also something about Jean Dujardin that is simply delightful. His smile is so... charming. I don't know what it is, but it's just charming.
As a random note, John Goodman pops up in there too. I feel like John Goodman just seems to pop up wherever he likes. Not a diss, just an observation. I mean, he's Sulley and I adore that movie. (Props if you know what I'm talking about.)
As for the rest of life, it's been a relaxing day. A lot of huddling next to the heater. Today I've been feeling freezing all day, and I've been told that means I'm on the way to a cold. I've been fighting off a cold already! Bah. Oh well. Thank goodness no tests are coming up.
This evening I was compared to the actress from Beginners. Hm. I've never gotten that before. I suppose I could look like Melanie Laurent. Yes, I had to look up the name. She was the girl from Inglorious Basterds as well.
After a phone call from me mum, I realized I shouldn't be bothered about the Hao moving out without telling me thing. If he's paying still, it should be fine. Still, I just tend to take it personally. I can't help it! What can you do?
Oscars are tomorrow! Whatever shall I wear? We'll think of something.
What was the last movie you watched that made you feel good/you really liked?

Make a Wish!
I think I was meant to live somewhere where it's sunny all of the time. I huddle next to a heater at even the slightest hint of cold weather, and it's not even that cold here. At least I don't live where it gets really cold. On the other hand, I really like Oregon so I shouldn't complain.
It's funny though, since I'm on the topic of cold weather to realize that we're already smack dab in the middle of November. Hm, maybe not quite smack dab, but you get the idea.
Part of the reason it seems weird is because the fall colors are seriously coming out right now. For example, today I was looking at the trees and thinking, "Wow, it sure is nice out there. Weird that it's getting so cold in the fall." Then I remembered... We're not in October. We're in November. Seem to keep forgetting that little fact. Seriously though, the fall colors are gorgeous right now. I even took a blurry picture while running because it looked cool.
...Well, at least I thought I did but it's nowhere to be found on my phone. That's what you get for taking pictures while you're still running. What, you don't do that?
I never really thought about it before, but November is actually a pretty swell month. There's the big event Thanksgiving (for the U.S. at least), but there's also a few little interesting holidays, both of my parents' birthdays, and the nearing of the end of the term. The last one is always a good deal.
One the fun little holidays that just so happens to be happening this year only? 11/11/11. Yes. I've been excited about this little holiday for awhile, just because it's a fun idea. The rest of the year, you're supposed to make wishes when you see the clock strike 11:11. Today, it makes the wishes an even bigger deal because of the date. There's a debate on which 11:11 you're supposed to make your wish on, the AM or PM one. Unfortunately, I was filling out an application at the time of the AM one, so I didn't see a clock! Sad life. I'll just have to wish extra hard when it comes to the PM one tonight.
Ridiculous holiday? Perhaps, but you gotta enjoy the little things in life.
Also, happy Veteran's Day! Thanks to all of the veterans out there.
Have you ever heard of 11/11? Did you make a wish?

It's Coming...
I'm going to talk about running today. Okay? Alrighty.
My run in in less than 36 hours. There's the expo for the race tomorrow. For some reason, I'm less freaked out than I thought I would be. Anxious, but not really freaked. The only thing I'm really freaked out about is the fact that I can feel a cold coming on.
As for prep, I've been a bit distracted. My last run was on Thursday, and I'm supposed to walk two miles. I've followed the training as close as possible, making sure not to overdo it when I feel an injury coming on. Does that mean my race is going to go perfectly? I have no idea. No matter what training you do, on race day anything can happen. I've heard all of the stories, good and bad.
For now, I'm going continue to... let's call it "carboloading". I did happen to read something on my running calendar that said, "Before a race, you shouldn't eat a huge amount of carbs the night before. Eat a decent amount of carbs for a few days before instead so you don't have to stop for multiple bathroom breaks." So... yeah. "carboloading.". Pish.
Have any big plans for the weekend?

A Turn to the Cold
Oregon has gotten the memo that it's fall. This is something that isn't a great thing to us Oregonians. We tend to spaz when we finally get sun, and when it disappears... we freak out.
One of the things that we always try to avoid when the weather gets cold again is going into hibernation mode. As much as I hoped to avoid it, today the hibernation sucked me in.
I moved slowly. I sat next to the heater. I looked at things that I needed to pack, and huddled into the couch once more.
This? This needs to stop. I'm sure that I'll be less hibernate-y once school starts, but doesn't it feel weird when it's cold again? Like we should go like the bears and rumble into caves? Why is that?
All I know is that if the patterns continue, I will become a blob encased in an over sized sweatshirt. Ridiculous.
Welp, apparently the cold weather is affecting the way I write as well. Therefore, I'm signing off for the night.
How does the colder weather affect you?

Late Night Surprises and The Amount of Time to Graduate
What an interesting start to the day I had! I bet that no one out there had one like I did (unless they live in the same dorms), unless it involved:
I guess it wasn't so bad, but really? Not super fun to be woken up randomly in the middle of the night by shrieking alarms to dash out into the cold with no shoes.
I'm starting to get to a solid idea of what I want to study, but realizing just what I want to study is getting kind of scary. It's not that I'm scared of the subject (though it will take a lot of hard work), but it's what's required in classes. I have come to the conclusion that despite trying to get a lot of classes done, I still might end up taking five years to graduate.
That scares the heck outta me.
Really, I know it shouldn't scare me. Maybe I don't feel scared, but it makes me feel shamed. Y'see, at the beginning of the year I participated in a class that stumbled upon the discussion of Generation Y, or my generation. In the class we talked about how Generation Y is taking longer to graduate, becoming more dependent on parents, moving back in with parents more often, and not as hard working. I don't want to diss my generation, but a lot of the time I feel like I don't quite fit the picture. I know that I'm a lot more dependent on my parents than I should be, but I try to be as independent as possible.
This kind of goes back to my fears I suppose. There are so many intelligent people out there, it's intimidating. I've read blogs of people who have graduated college early, I've heard stories where people get amazing scores on everything they do. I want people to look at me that way, you know? I want people to think, "Oh, what a great job she's done." Did I mention I'm hella narcissistic? Because I am. I crave attention, I can't help it.
Yeah. That's what's on my mind. Now it's time to take a shower. Late night Zumba!
How do you feel about how many years it takes to graduate?
- Loud noises
- 3AM
- Cold morning

The Illusion of Spring Shut Down
Brr!
Every year, I always forget about the little tricks that Oregon likes to pull. It'll make you believe that Spring is coming, with the sudden change to warmer weather. Oregonians start wearing shorts, because supposively 48 degrees is high enough for that. You get excited and...
POW! The coldness comes back, in a hard way.
It was so freaking cold today! The sun was shining brightly, but it was about 28 degrees out for most of the day with extreme wind chill.
The coldness did not stop me and two of my hall mates to go on a walk out there, but it ended up being a walk full of everyone saying how cold they were.
I'm hoping that it decides to get a little warmer tomorrow.
Have you been surprised with a sudden cold shock in your homefront recently?

Busy days and First Impressions
Oof. What a day it's been. Busy busy busy! The start of a very busy week, that's for sure.
There was class like normal, then a quick lunch led by meeting with the Spanish teacher to get signed up for Spanish 102. She suggested I sit in her 2:00 201 class. That meant showering quickly, then running into her class. Honestly, I felt like I could understand for the most part. Although I wish there was a class in between 102 and 201 happening next term, because that would feel the best. For the rest of the day I've been studying for my Health test tomorrow and finishing up my English reading.
There was also a meeting for the One Act thrown in at 5:30. That was... awkward, simply because my fatigue from the day made me sound like an idiot. Ugh. First impressions with the other guy? Not the greatest. I pulled off a pretty legit dumb blond facade.
It's felt like I have not stopped going... but I'm ready to crash. I'm a little worried about the test, but I'm always worried. Getting a good night's sleep will help, and I can study a little extra in the morning.
...There is yelling and screaming happening outside. Damn you 1st Taylor, you guys are always super obnoxious.
Tomorrow is the Turkey Trot and a benefit concert in Corvallis that I promised to go to. Only a few more days!

Good News and Hibernation Weather
You know how I've been talking about the feeling of hibernation creeping upon campus? Today was one of those days that it made you want to stay inside even more. This is why:
Icky. Oregon's winter is officially happening. I love my Oregon, but... mrr.
Today something extremely exciting happened. I was drying my hair when my phone started ringing. I suspected it was my mom because she's the only person who tends to actually use their phone as a phone. Alas, it was an unknown number. When I answered it, it was someone named Nick. He was putting on a One Act play and the director of Picnic told him to call me. Apparently she thought I was good enough to suggest to this guy to put me in his One Act. I asked about an audition and he just replied, "No audition, I'm just gonna trust her on this." How cool is that?! I seriously did not expect something like that to happen. I'm meeting with him on Friday. We'll see where this goes, but OH MY GOSH! Seriously!
In other news, I got a flu shot tonight. My arm is super sore. This better go away by Weight Training on Friday.
It's also the last day I'm wearing my pedometer. I'll kind of miss the little thing. A little.
Lastly, I also met with someone in the Career Development Center today. I just wanted some help on figuring out where my passions should take me in way of a major. Meeting up with her was a little bit like talking to a therapist about your problems. It's not really that I didn't know what I should do, but saying it out loud to someone else made the ideas seem more clear. It's good to get a lot of different views. Something she said at the very end of our meeting was, "I can't wait to see where you are in six years." That is pretty neat.
Now is the time that I must continue working on my costume project... or whatever else I get distracted by.
