Stepping into the New Frontier of the Internet

Fun fact about me: I am terrible at making up usernames. It's not just that, but I'll try to think of a username for something for hours. Sometimes I'll just stare at the screen, thinking about it. How depressing.

So I got a Twitter. Yup. I have no idea why I should even need a twitter, because in my book Twitter is for:
  1. Famous people or
  2. Extremely witty people (Comedians usually)
I'm not sure I can classify myself in either one of those categories. I'll try to fake it in the latter category. Now, I do have reasons why I actually thought getting a Twitter might be a good thing. First of all, everything is talking about how "it's a good way to network yourself". Do I know for what yet? No. Who knows what it could help me with in the future with though. Another reason has to do with Jimmy Fallon in a broad sense. Y'see, lately I've been watching clips from his show, and one of the segments he has is called "Hashtags". This is created by input from Twitter users, and for some of the subjects I've thought, "Hey, I have a good experience I could send in," then realizing that I do not have what is required to participate. This actually works for a lot of things, because a lot of TV shows and such that I'm a fan of only promote things through Twitter. In my sad little brain, this makes me think that the shows don't think I'm as big of a fan. I have the dumbest logic ever, but you see where this is going. Last reason? Lots of bloggers seem to have them and it seems like blog-y things travel through the Twitter-verse.

Anywho, now you can find me trying to be smarter than I actually am in a different area of the Internet, @HannahHasAFact. Ridiculous username? Perhaps. It's sort of based off of the same idea that this blog is titled after, because in almost every conversation I have I have to throw in some random fact like a pretentious jackass. Good lord, that was a run on sentence. I felt a touch of relief when I saw that you could change it in the future if desired.

Did I just write a whole blog post on justifying why I created a Twitter? I think I did. There is something wrong with me. Then again, I usually end up joining in on the trend as soon as it starts fading. I'm like when parents start joining the Facebook, and it's not cool anymore. Eh.
If you just got a rando-person following you, now you know why.

So, to all of those in Twitter-land: Any good people to follow I should know about?

Commenting and the Internet

So I have a confession.

Sometimes, when I say that after I have a long run, I just move slowly. For a lot of the time, that's true. However, sometimes I just want time to chill before I go off and do other things. That's what's happening now. Then again, that could really be part of me just moving slowly after a long run as well.

Actually, I have another confession.

I am a lurker. Okay, that sounds creepy let's explain that shall we?
Online, there are many wonderful places, and things that people create. Blogs, for instance. And with many of these things online, there are places where others can comment. Comments are what can fuel some of the Internet community to do great things! Sometimes the fans of something can say things more witty than the creators of such things. That's where I have a problem. I'm terrible at commenting on things, and I know that commenting is awesome. There are times where I will go through the entire archive of something and never comment. I have about 20 blogs on my blog roll. I regularly comment on about 3 of those, and sometimes I'm iffy then. There are a few channels on YouTube that I really enjoy watching. Have I ever commented on these videos? No. Why is that?

I think part of the reason for my lack of commenting comes from the good ol' comparison problem. You see, some people have incredible fans. That's intimidating. It shouldn't be, but for me, I try and compare to the most amazing fan they have. What if my comment seems dumb in comparison? Then again, there are the boatload of other comments on the Internet that involve "BOOBS DICK", but I don't compare myself to them. Why is that? Hm.
I suppose another thing is I'll think of a comment, think about writing it, then forget. I'm kind of lazy sometimes, remember?

Another thing that I realize is that commenting on blogs can help get others to take a look at my blog. And make others more likely to comment on my blog as well. Because currently, I think five people, including my sister and mother read my blog. Yeah.

I like commenting, I just never know if my comment is going to come across stupid. Still, I really ought to try and comment more. I think I just want my first comment on any blog/vlog/whatever to be a witty one. Like anyone will remember? No. Who cares? It's a comment, they feel nice. Just another example of me, over thinking a situation.

Speaking of which, my sister was talking to me the other day and she asked, "Who's this Kat that said something about urban U of O or whatever?"
To which I replied, "Oh, it's another blogger, I read her blog too."
"Wait. You've never actually met this person?"
"Nope."

Oh, the power of the Internet. (And I'm still thinking about doing a U of O life thing, but if I do it won't be until I actually get down there. So we'll see.)

Other than that, been bitten by a lot of bugs lately! What's the deal with that?

What's your online status? I.E. are you a lurker or an avid commenter?

Guilty Pleasures and Cleaning Up Online

It's Friday Night! Alright!

People of the world, I have a confession to make. Lately I've been enjoying the guilty pleasure that is Perez Hilton.

One of the things that I think is kind of curious about Perez Hilton is how he talks yet still is known as a credible source. Many of his posts you see him say things like, "LOL! So sexie!" of "Omg SO SAD!" When one thinks about credible sources, they don't usually type in chat speak.

Anyway, I've been reading Perez to get news on pop culture. I feel like I need to be informed if I'm interested in working with pop culture maybe someday.
...Although I just skip over the Charlie Sheen articles. I was over it before it even started.

Today I decided to do some cleaning, but it wasn't the type of cleaning you would expect. I hopped around the web and cleaned up my past. You see, I've had many different usernames on different websites, and I've decided that I want to have nothing online that could be odd for something to find. Paranoid? Sure, but at least I don't have things for a boss to even question me about. I used to have a Tumblr, but now it's gone. I haven't used it in ages, so why have it? I'd rather have my online reputation be not about a failed attempt at a journal comic.
I'm going to try to start making a more professional name for myself online... but I'm still not sure how.

Well, I'm off for the night. I hope everyone has a lovely evening!

What's one of your online guilty pleasures?

The Topic of Twitter

Oof. There's just something about Wednesdays, isn't there? It's like my week just builds up tension until Thursday, then there's a sigh of relief.

Now let's change to something completely different, shall we?

Technology is an incredible thing. It's amazing how ideas have been formed and molded into something no one thought was even possible ten years ago. (Perhaps even less than that!) Just think of the telephone. First there was the simple idea of communicating with someone far away without shouting to them in the distance. There were people who actually did that, it's true. That led to the telephone... which led to the cell phone. I didn't think I was supposed to feel old at 19, but I remember when there was a CAMERA on a phone! First you can take it anywhere, but now you can take pictures too? Then we take a look at today, where I pretty much could live on a desert island with only my cell phone. Plus now it's "You don't even have a camera on your phone? Poor thing!"

With the world become a technological utopia, there are some forms of technology that I have not latched myself onto. Sure, much of the rest of the world has attached themselves to these things, but there is one specific technology that I simply haven't gotten into. This is going to make me sound like an elderly person who just doesn't understand what "the Facebook" is, but I just can't into one thing:

Twitter.

The more I've thought about it, the more I've kind of wanted to. But the thing is, I don't really have any use of it. From my understanding, it seems only useful for celebrities to make people know even more about their lives or those who write witty one-liners.

Twitter doesn't seem like a bad thing. I've heard stories where Twitter can help peoples' businesses, or help them earn revenue in ways no one has thought of before. However I don't have a business to make. I suppose the business I could be promoting would be myself, but I'm not sure what I would say.

So, I ask you Internet: What is the point of having a Twitter if you are not:

A)A celebrity who has millions of people wondering when they brush their teeth
B)Someone promoting their business, or a business promoting themselves or
C) A narcissistic person who just thinks the world needs to know how they're feeling 24 hours a day in 140 characters or less.

I'm not hating on you if you do have a Twitter. I just don't see the point in having one myself, but I'd like to know if there would be a good reason to have one.

(Besides, I blog about my life. I think about songs I would use in my biopic. I tend to have the looming idea of self-importance, something that is indeed Stuff White People Like. I've got the narcissism thing down pat.)

Therefore, I ask What's a good/bad reason to have a Twitter account?
