Messy Buns, Room mate Interactions and Fashion Habits

Can I just say that I should not be allowed to write anything when distracted by outside sources? Agreed? Good. Now let's move on.

For the past two weeks, I have been rockin' the messy bun all of the time. All my girls out there with the long hair, seriously consider it.  The messy bun is the perfect mix of laziness yet looking put together. Plus, all of your hair is out of your way. Awesome. (Underneath it all, buns always kind of give me the dancer vibe, which I love.)

Hopefully I'm not leaning toward the crazy schizo dancer.
One of the strangest occurrences since I have been at college has happened. My room mate CLEANED. Not just pushed a few things under her bed, no. She literally cleaned. It's almost a little terrifying that our dorm is so neat, but I'm not gonna complain. Hey, if this new guy in her life is going to get her to clean, he's good in my book.

There are times that the room mate ticks me off, and there are times that she's cool in my book. However, there was something that she did today that most definitely did not put her on my good side. The funny thing is, she didn't do anything to me. She did it to her parents.
So, the room mate's parents stopped by to drop some things off for her. She also happened to be trying to keep this new guy in her life a secret from her parents... Doesn't work well when there's flowers from him in the room, but I digress. The thing that just ticked me off was how rude she was to them. She snapped at everything they said, didn't say thank you for anything and... Ugh! Here are some examples of what I heard:
"Oh, who are those flowers from?"
"None of your BUSINESS."
"So what have you been up to."
"School and whatever."
"Here, we brought you these!"
"Yeah, cool. Did you get that other thing?"

Now, I get that sometimes parents can get on your nerves and all of that. But geez, they're the ones who birthed you! Treat them with respect! I love my mom, and even though she can get on my last nerve I still at least try to be polite. Plus, the more you keep from your parents, the less they will want to trust you. Maybe that's why my room mate is so paranoid. My mom may say that you should look for a guy that respects his mom, because then he'll respect you. I believe that could work for girls too. If they don't respect their parents, will they respect their friends?

I know that my family already doesn't like my room mate, and I try to defend her all of the time. Alas, my argument is slowly starting to falter.

On the fashion side of the world, the last few days I have not been wearing very much color. What is this madness!? Usually, I tend to wear a lot of color. If I'm wearing a lot of black, I throw in some bright pink tights or something. That's something I try to avoid a lot. Unfortunately, that's what I've been doing so much. I need colors, dangit!

Well, time to prepare for another week at school. Woo.
Do you treat your parents with respect? and What's your favorite fashion habit?

New Zodiacs, Classy, Bulletin Boards, and Security

Ah... the stress of the week seems to have lifted, and the anticipation of the weekend has begun to grow. Let's chat about a few things, shall we?

First of all, has everyone out there heard about the Zodiacs changing? I'm not kidding. Apparently, some scientists/astrologists have decided that the moon has moved or something, and the signs therefore have changed. There's even a new sign that no one can pronounce known as Orphiuchus, or the man strangling a snake. I wish I was making this up. Here's an article about it:
http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/13/horoscope-hang-up-earth-rotation-changes-zodiac-signs/
I refuse to be a Virgo. I will always be a Libra. I love my goofy scales!

Lately when I have the time, I've been trying to work my way through the book Classy by Derek Blasberg. The book is basically an etiquette book for the modern lady. It's a really fun read! Then again, I think I'm becoming my mother in the sense that I enjoy etiquette books, but it's interesting nevertheless.

You don't want that tramp stamp!
Remember that bulletin board that fell from my wall? Well, I happened to come across this lovely sight again:

Goodness. I tried putting it up one more time, but it fell to the floor for a third time. For the time being, the board sits against the wall on the ground.

As a last thought, I'd like to think about a blog post that I read recently posted, that blogger Kat linked. Here's the original post:
http://www.imanokie.com/2011/01/every-bloggers-nightmare-2/
Her situation is kind of a long shot for me, but it has a good main idea. Basically, it got me thinking about how private things on my blog should be. I'm not sure if I really post any information that is really risky, but it's a good thing to look out for. I make sure I don't post things on Facebook that could be dangerous to any job or something like it that I might go for in the future. I'm not going to be silent on my blog, just keeping a watchful eye on what I post. Better safe than sorry!

I... didn't do a lot today besides classes, run, and watch a lot of Rotten Tomatoes specials on Hulu. Which was actually pretty swell.

What's your new astrological sign? What do you think of the change?

The Fighter, Contradicting Concepts and the Need to Finish Things

I don't think I want to believe that it's already Saturday night. Nope, I don't think so.

Last night I went to a campus sponsored midnight movies in the next town over with some friends to see The Fighter. Even though it was a battle to actually get into the right theater after changing theaters three times, I was so glad to go. The Fighter was such a great movie, ah man! It was seriously a movie that pulled you in and messed with your emotions. And though he's crazy, Christian Bale is a fantastic actor in this. Also, he is a freakin' stick in this movie.

Someone get this guy something to eat!
I also liked Amy Adams a lot in this movie. And of course, Mark Wahlberg was a good golden boy.

It's funny how when we resolve towards a different concept, we like to drift in the opposite direction. For me, I said to myself, "Hey, you shouldn't go buy things." Then I went to the movies. However, it was two dollars cheaper than regular movie tickets, and I really want to see as many of the 25 movies to see before the Oscars as possible. You just need to make compromises I suppose. I think this month I'll try to not eat out as much.

I visited a friend today, and when I came back to my room this greeted me:

Well, maybe not the food, but everything else.
How obnoxious! Especially since it took some paint off from the wall. Apparently these walls won't let you attach anything.

I need to seriously get on my homework. I've started one reading, but as I've seen next week is going to be packed if I don't get started on it all ASAP.

Have you been watching any of the Movies to Watch Before the Oscars? Which ones have you enjoyed the most?

Sporatic Awakenings and A Look at the Dorm Room

Today is one of those days where it just seemed to rush by. I can't believe it's already Wednesday actually. As the writer of The Happiness Project puts it, "The days are long but the years are short." Ain't that the truth.

Last night I ended up waking up multiple times.  I have no idea why. Once during the night, I got out of bed, got all of my things out for breakfast, and wandered out into the hallway. It seemed strange that some people were out that usually aren't up at that time... Then I looked at my phone and discovered it was 1 AM. Goodness gracious. I didn't go out in the hall again, but I did wake up a few more times thinking it was time to get up.
I think this is my body telling me to just listen to my alarm clock...
I forgot my Student ID when getting lunch today. Felt pretty ridiculous. Luckily, my room mate was around and she bought my lunch for me. How nice! Now I owe her luhch.

Last midterm was today! YES. After that excruciating time, the day seemed to zip by. There were my other two classes, lunch, shower, quick assignment to finish, and then I ran some educational errands as I like to call them. Basically that means talking to professor-type figures about information, printing stuff off, etc.

After some dinner, I came back to the room and started cleaning. Honestly, I've become surprisingly clean at college. I clean my dorm a lot more than I ever cleaned my room at home. That brings us to a tour of my dorm! Aren't you excited?
Behold the typical Ackerman dorm! My room mate is on the left, I'm on the right. Here is a comparison of our cleanliness. My side:

And my room mate's side:

Now, it's true that I have a slight advantage here, seeing as I picked up a bit. However, the messiest I get are some clothes on the floor, some papers scattered on the desk. My side is off and on a bit cluttered. Her side has been like this since before classes even began. Her though process is this:
*Looks at side*
"I should really clean..."
*Goes on Facebook for 3 hours* (Seriously, how can you spend that long on Facebook? What is there to DO?)
Enough about her. Let's explore, shall we?
Here's my changing station. There's my clothes, some jewelry, and two bags full of cans. Because it was my great idea to collect cans for a deposit, they all reside on my side. Moving on!

This is my desk. What you see here are some papers, my books, my gummy multivites, and a ridiculous goose object. My room mate has this strange... habit I guess? She and my other friend like buying me gifts from the thrift store at home. They look for the most bizarre thing they can find. That goose was my birthday present this year.
This is where the paint came off the wall from the wall attachment stuff the school suggested. Seriously, why suggest something that TAKES THE PAINT OFF? I think they just suggested it so they could charge us with damages.
Here is the windowsill. This is where my shower things reside.

Welp, I hope you enjoyed that little tour! It's time for me to relax, especially since I have no homework due until Monday! Yes.
As a little parting gift, here's a look at what ny room mate's desk looks like:

There's more and more everyday. Goodness. Hope everyone has a lovely evening!

What does your living area look like? Are you messy or clean?

Spaghetti Night and Maybe Trying Something Crazy

Hello out there blog world! How are ya doing?
I'm doing alright, but I still have a million things I need to get done. As you can see in the picture above, I'm always trying to get something else done.
You know how I said I was trying to budget my life? Goodness gracious, it takes a lot of work. I'm not even looking at the big things like tuition, I'm just looking on spending money for random things I need during the school year. Such as laundry and Zumba and school stuff. So many things, so hard to try not to spend all of your money! I think I've managed to budget it all together, but... we'll see, won't we?

It feels like the teachers are starting to crack down on the big project plans. I have two pretty decently-sized things due in two weeks and a smaller project in a week that we got today. Time to get crackin'! It's scary though.

We had a 'Bistro Night' in our hall tonight. Basically it was our RA making us spaghetti. We were all so hungry we just inhaled it.

Amanda and Karin, our RA. She's adorably bubbly.

In the title of this post, I said maybe trying something crazy. This has to do with my project due in a week. For Individual Health/Fitness, we need to make a fitness plan. I've been running and I want to try running more and more. This got me to the thought: What if I ran a half marathon? It is on my bucket list, and it would be a great thing to do!  I looked up some info on races here in Oregon and found one happening in January. Could I do it? I keep running around the idea (ha ha, pun). Then I went for a run today and ran 4.20 miles for 38 minutes. That's about a 9 minute mile! I think I should. If not now, when?

I was going to go to the Save the Ta-Tas thing going tomorrow, but I'm going down to Eugene to have dinner for my sister's birthday. She's turning 21! (I got her a WOU shot glass, ha.) I should do something else too... I think after this, I'll draw her a picture. If homework doesn't consume me.

Have you ever done a Half Marathon? Any training tips/suggestions?

Writing to Say Hello

It may be hump day, but I seem to keep forgetting what day it is. I have to look at the calendar to make sure every five minutes. Anyways, hello!
Today has been one of those slow days. I’m secretly thankful because I’ve been way too busy to get anything done or space to let my brain breathe. I went to a session about clubs and intramurals this morning that taught me nothing. After that, two of my Hall mates and I found where our classes are. Right now I’m technically supposed to be in a mandatory presentation. I am just not in the mood for that right now. Perhaps I may seem bad to not go to it, but I didn’t want to be depressed by another speaker talking about something horrible that can happen. I understand that it’s important to know, but aren’t they supposed to make us excited for school. Besides, I’ve been getting stuff done. Like decorating my wall! (Shut up, it’s important…)
Dorm life 002
I am still at the age where I still enjoy receiving letters because I don’t get bills. Therefore, I’ve been trying to get addresses to write letters, and have already written one. I wrote it at 1 in the morning last night because that was the only time available to write. It’s pretty therapeutic.
I’ll try not to make this post too long, but I’d like to talk about how some of my goals are going:
2. Not Gain the Dreaded Freshmen Fifteen
Food-wise and exercise-wise things are seriously different. During the summer I ate a ton of little things during the day. Now I’m pretty much only eating the three meals a day thing. I’m trying to read my body signals, but it’s kind of hard. I haven’t gotten much exercise either. It’s been walking around campus and climbing up to my dorm on the 4th floor. I have been avoiding the dessert area, but my room is filled with temptation. My mom bought me a ton of candy for Halloween (already). We’ll see on Sunday!
6. Make Friends
We all know this can be difficult, but I’ve been trying! Currently I think the people I’ve gotten closest too are two of my hall mates and a guy from Landers. My two hall mates are from Wyoming and Hawaii, which is pretty cool. My guy friend from Landers is Andrew, and he’s fun. He’s going to be in my theatre class, so it should be fun.
I’m going to try to close my rambling here, so I can start writing some letters. The plans for tonight are a community meeting and Jumanji on a big drive in screen. Should be fun!
Do you guys like writing letters? Who do you write to?
