When I was in high school, I would listen to music or watch TV while doing my homework. What happened after that was I didn't retain any of the information that I had just read. Now when going over work or reading I have to have music off. I know that a lot of people need music when they study, and I find that so bizarre. Sure, if it's music without words like classical music I'm fine. However a lot of people will watch a show and be able to get their information just fine.
I've been told that I'm just not as good at multi-tasking if I have trouble listening to music and doing other things at the same time. Seems a bit insulting to my intelligence, but whatever. I think I retain the information a lot better than others personally. Ha, who knows.
When I'm blogging even I usually can't have music. If I do, I tend to have it at a kind of low volume. My thoughts never come out as well if I have music playing because my thoughts get mixed with the lyrics in the songs. My thoughts are never as coherent written out when I listen to music. Because of that, if I'm writing something professional I never listen to things with lyrics. I just want to make sure that I sound professional in such things, and that tends to not happen when I have music.
If you didn't realize, I'm currently listening to music as I write this post. So if I seem less coherent, that is the reason.
Last midterm happening tomorrow. I have no idea how to study for it. I've done well on all of the quizzes, and it's English. How on earth do you study for an English midterm? I suppose I was able to study for them last year, but that was more when I didn't know what the characters did. In Greek plays, many of the characters say very similar things. That means when using quotes, it was difficult to match quotes to characters. Yet I feel like I know who says what in these current books. I know who has what problems, who would say which type of things. It's the essay parts I have no idea to study for. Hmm.
In random news, my cousins are thinking of doing a half! I'm so excited! They don't know which one yet, but my sister suggested this one happening on the fourth of July. That would be fun, and I know I'd be in shape in time for it. I mean, my sister and I are training for a half "race" June 3rd, so if I just kept continuing my mileage at around that area, I would be fine. Once they register for one, I think I'll join them.
How is it almost ten? I just don't understand.
Are you able to listen to music/watch TV while doing work?

Being Studious
Last year in the dorms, I lived in a very... academic setting.
Oh, who am I kidding? We were nerds. Due to the fact that there wasn't a lot to do, Sundays would be full on study days. The common room usually had everyone sitting around doing their homework, and many of us were getting a lot done. We pretty much had competitions to see who could get the most homework for the week done. Many of these times we would finish a whole week's worth of homework. Like I said, nerds.
Lately, I've been a lot less studious it seems. It's not to say I'm not getting my homework done- believe me, I am- but it's almost like my high school mentality wants to kick in again.
I suppose there are other reasons to my mentality change. Having to grocery shop, being away from a common study area, more social events in my life... Still, they're just excuses.
Another thing that might be affecting me is the lack of a support group. In the dorms, I could go out and study with others. Now, it's different. I'm in HUGE classes where I don't even see people I might know, and you have to actually make plans to meet for studying. I'll admit it- Even now into the second term, I still feel like I don't have a lot of friends. Sure I know people, but I don't know where I stand with people. I'm socially awkward to a fault, but that's a post for another day. The whole point is just another excuse.
Since I'm transferred here, I haven't done that much worse. I have done worse though, now that I look at it. At WOU, I got two A-s, three B+s, and one B. (I'm not including the summer classes) The rest were all As. Fall term, I got two As, and two B+s. Honestly though, if "worse" is a 3.5 GPA, I definitely think I'm okay.
Still, I don't want to slide. Being studious is what got me into this school. Being studious will help me get into the Journalism program (Though if is the GPA is 2.9 to get in, I still think I'm okay) Being studious can help me get scholarships. Hopefully.
And that's what I have to say about that! Another week begins. Let's make it a good one! Not sayin' this last week wasn't good, I just want another good week.
Were you studious in college? If you were, was it at the very beginning or near the end?

Running Differently and Other Stuff
Recently, I've been doing a few things differently in the case of running. I've been
APO has been interesting. I don't really know what to say about it, but I've been going to Chapter meetings and Pledge class. We have to get at least 10 hours of service each term, and I've got about 3 right now. I served pizza at a kid's carnival thing, and I'm helping at a booth thing on Sunday. I simply don't know how to really explain it. Maybe I'll think of ways to later.
Okay, time to get a move on for HPHY studying! I'm nervous about this test, but at the same time I feel like it shouldn't be too complicated. I'm just worried about how prepared I'll be. Almost 10... Good move Hannah.
Anyone else doing something different from their usually ways lately?
- Listening to my ipod on some runs
- Running with a partner
- Running in the afternoon
